I used to paint a lot in college, and later for fun. I used oils, watercolor, or gouache (mostly gouache - it blends well and dries quickly)... but now that I've been working full time, am married and have a house, bills, and pets of my own, I haven't had much time to paint. However, after doing the "Hyenabones" piece, the flame was rekindled, and I thought it'd be fun and good practice to do another loose painting.
Sevian Rei has an interesting creature he calls "Irago", and I thought he would be fun to try for a combination thank-you/practice pic, though I strayed from his drawings and thus this is really not Irago... it's more of an "Irago-dragoncat-inspired" thing. I started out scribbling freehand in pen on watercolor paper, then taped it down and started painting. I had planned to do most of the detail in colored pencil, but I ended up doing the majority of it in paint, saving the colored pencil mostly for fur and little details.
I USED to paint slowly and carefully, but lately I don't feel like being so worried about each and every brushmark (partly because of lack of time - I only have an hour or two a day for art, if I'm LUCKY), so I worked the whole thing quickly, all at once instead of concentrating on any one area. I learned a lot with this, but I STILL have MUCH more practice to do before I'm "where I want to be" with my art.
RSVP pen, watercolor, gouache, Prismacolor and Design colored pencils on watercolor paper. BTW: The orignal pen drawing is
here - I painted right over it.

Definitely cool, I know what you mean about prefering gouache. I've been working heavily with watercolor lately myself, and oils just. . .too hard to clean up after. Mrrg.
