Matchmaker, Matchmaker : Intro

“We can make you into anybody you want. We can get you anything you desire. With our help, nothing is out of your reach. We can make all of your dreams come true…”

Those were the first words she ever said to me. Looking back now I suppose the words might seem kind of cheesy, a melodramatic sales pitch. But to be honest, if, at this very moment, she were to say them to me again, they would probably be the same as they were that day—breathtaking, mesmerizing, full of promise. Because really, it wasn’t the words themselves that held the power—it was her. It was the sound of her voice, her tone: powerful yet soft, full of a mystery that intrigued you, made you want more; the subtle inflections of her voice, the way she paused right before finishing her statement, drawing you in. She spoke at a low volume, making it so that you had to lean in to catch every word. Later, I found out that that was a purposeful tactic she used, a technique to make sure that all attention was on her.

It wasn’t just the way she spoke, though, it was the way she sat, too, how she held herself. Her body was relaxed, casual, but expectant, too, with her body half-turned towards you, one leg crossed over the over, arms crossed loosely across her chest.

It was her eyes that really got you, though. Even hidden in shadow, they were intense and piercing. When they focused on you, you were frozen, locked in place, completely vulnerable to her scrutiny. Sometimes you had to remind yourself to breathe.

That was her magic, the spell that she could cast on you. Every move, every word, every subtle gesture planned out by an ever-aware, ever-calculating mind. It was who she was and what she did. It was her job, and she was the best. She was the wishmaker.

So yeah... finally posting some writing on Sheezy. This is probably gonna be it for here, because this is an art community and I feel that one is enough. Plus, I already have a lot of them on my FictionPress, so I don't really need to post them here. I just felt it would be good to have at least one writing sample here since I do claim to be a writer first and foremost. Although technically, this wouldn't be the best example because it's just an introduction/teaser in narrative style (I usually write in third person).

Anyway, this submission is from a story of mine called "Matchmaker, Matchmaker." This piece is just an introduction/teaser for it. If you want to know more about it, you can find the full summary at my website. Also, I have the first two installments posted up on FictionPress, which you can read here: FP.

Feel free to leave any comments, questions, or critiques.
