A jilted lover, a widow
A happily married man.
They gather here every Friday night
One sits; the others stand.
The jilted lover speaks of the girl who turned him down
The widow weeps of her husband that had drowned.
The married man gets out a picture of his wife
And the new addition to the house: a baby girl named Flight.
The widow picks up the picture
And begins a lecture.
The jilted lover eyes the girls at the next table
Who are dressed in revealing dresses and fine coats of sable.
The widow pokes him and loudly whispers ‘playboy!’
The jilted lover turns and shrugs , saying ‘most prob’ly’.
The married man smiles tenderly and says ‘goodbye, Mama’
But as he does he notices her thoughts are back with Papa.
The jilted lover kisses the widow and makes his way
To his next conquest;
While the widow sighs, wipes her eyes.
‘Maybe it is best’.
