Alzeran Chapter 2

Chapter 2
The wood elf army was camped outside the walls of Ienswar. Grondavor could not help but stare in awe at the great city. The stone walls, and towers that loomed high above all else. The dwarves were definitely the best architects he had ever heard of.
Grondavor, Selvane, and their friends were in a tent playing around.
“Hey don’t hog all of the chips!” exclaimed Korai.
They were all having great fun when the horn sounded outside. In an orderly fashion they all grabbed their weapons, and ducked out of the tent.
Outside Shal’ arit was shouting orders. “The dwarves are no longer our allies,” he told them sadly as they came out. “We sent in a messenger, and instead of him coming back out, a dwarf army came out ready for battle. I am afraid we might not have any allies left at all.”
The friends rushed to the third line and awaited the approaching dwarf army.
“Do you think this will be as bad as that other battle?” asked Tirash.
“I think it will be worse,” said Selvane.
The dwarves came within range of the archers and Shal’ arit gave the order to fire. A volley of arrows hurdled through the air and instantly the first five lines of the dwarf army fell.
With that the dwarves sprinted across the plain.
The front line of the elves army lowered their lances and raised their shields. The second line put their lances in between soldiers from the first line.
The dwarves arrived and the two armies broke out into battle. The dwarves’ axes easily broke straight through the lances of the elves. The first line had been easily defeated, and the second line was going fast.
The third line raised their swords and charged into the mess. The fast and nimble swords easily outmatched the heavy axes of the dwarves. They were overwhelmed.
Grondavor saw more arrows being shot into the army of dwarves. Now the towers from Ienswar were shooting arrows down at the battle. The elves were being picked off one by one by the untouchable enemy.
“We need to take out those towers!” yelled Grondavor.
Is if in answer to this five ballista shots from the back of the army launched into the walls of Ienswar. Half of the wall crumbled under the power.
Grondavor blocked an axe blow with his shield and then stabbed the dwarf into the chest with his sword. The dwarf fell and another took its place.
More ballista shots arced over head and slammed into one of the towers. It collapsed and fell backwards onto the towers and homes of Ienswar.
At this point the dwarf citizens were fleeing the city in fear of their lives. The warriors were falling fast, and the city had almost no chance.
The elves steadily advanced upon the city. The dwarves were forced to retreat several times, only to fin themselves trapped again by elves.
The archers were executing their job brilliantly, plunging arrows into the center of the dwarf army.
The dwarves were surrounded now. Archers barraged them from all sides, while warriors hacked away at the front lines.
“We are going to take the city!” exclaimed Grondavor.
At that moment, as if god wanted Grondavor to be wrong, a great trembling occurred in the ground, accompanied by a loud screech coming from the city.
The dwarves fell back against the crumbling walls of their city smiling. A blue dragon, fully armored, with a rider, rose from the city and took flight above the battle. The rider cast powerful magic down at the ground that exploded on impact, killing several elves. The dragon swooped down and picked up twenty elf warriors in each massive claw, rose above the battle, and hurled them back down towards the ground.
The dragon swooped again and launched a huge array of fire from its mouth in all directions. The heat killed many elves, and burned one of their ballistae to a crisp.
“All remaining ballistae shoot at that thing!” shouted Shal’ arit.
The ballistae aimed and fired, but the speed of the dragon was too quick. It easily dodged all of the shots. The archers were shooting at it in panic, trying to tear its wings and bring it down.
Grondavor ran back to his tent and retrieved his bow. He was a powerful magician along with warrior and had enchanted all of his arrows to explode on impact.
He pulled an arrow from the quiver and put it to his bow string. He pulled, aimed and fired. The dragon dodged the arrow and it flew into the wall of Ienswar, completely destroying a section of wall. It shattered and fell upon the remaining dwarves.
He took another arrow from the quiver. This time he accounted for the wind and the movement of the dragon. He aimed carefully and fired. The arrow soared through air and struck the dragon in the wing.
The arrow exploded and the dragon’s wing caught fire. It let out a horrible yell that sent most of the elves to the ground covering their ears in pain.
The dragon went out of control in the air. He crashed into the walls several times throwing his rider of his back and plummeting down 200 yards to hit the ground dead.
Finally the dragon crashed over the edge of the wall and landed on the remains of a tower. It gave one final shriek and perished.
The elves marched into the city looking for anything they could use. The battle was over, and they had learned a valuable lesson. Nobody can be trusted.
