The Drive

Nothin's worse than travelin'
At a speed of Fifty-nine
And you don't seem to be gettin' nowhere
And you cannot pass the time
And you're starin' at the roadsigns
As your thoughts slip from your mind

Well, you know just where you're goin'
And where you're comin from
And you nkow you can't turn back now
You gotta keep movin' on
And you heartbeat is the only sound
That steady, beating drum

As the road winds to the horizon
You watch the fallin' snow
How long have you been movin'?
Where'd you come from? Where'd you go?
Is this freedom or a prison?
And do you truly know?

So you travel ever onward
Away from all you've known

All you've known

I remember writing this on the back of a homework assignment back in January. I was in the car and I was driving to Great Lakes Naval Base for the weekend. The drive up there is long, repetitive, and featureless. All you can do is count the miles. There are no radio stations. All there is is slush, snow, and pavement interupted only by the occasional green roadsign. Ugh.

I really like this one. It has a potential of becoming a song. Great job.
