Japanese Bobtail: my half of a trade with Starfallz (note: I can't take any new trades now - sorry!). She asked for "something Japanese", and I wanted to try something different, so I went for a very stylized, graphic, almost cut-paper-like look, especially with the clothing - I purposely wanted it to look flat. I wanted a bit of the paper to show through, too. The cleavage wasn't done to be "sexy"; I liked the white space of her chest, but it looked too empty otherwise.
Note: The cleavage isn't supposed to be sexy, but if it is too much I'll label this as "mature".
Gouache and colored pencil on toned paper, RECENT touchups in Photoshop.

Wow, very nice pencil works. Only criq I could offer is that maybe the head (in portion to the body) is just an itty bit too small. But nothing major to worry about.
Nice work.

Okay I've probibly told you this before.
Japanese Bobtails are my second fav breed (siamese are the first =D) I LOVE this pic, and I love how you did the hair matching the Calico/Mi-Ke colouration.
I just wish that you had another trade mark of the breed (odd eye colouration) But still I'm so excited to see domestic cats from you, speically breed specific, because you have the head set and ear placement so bobbie looking =D

I really like this... (great color scheming with the alternating colors on the left and right...)
though!
But why is the white fur on the neck and chest so much darker than the face? The sternomastoid/clavicle definition also looks too sharp/flat to me, as well. It looks like you needed something else to fill in that area (a necklace, maybe?). Dunno - definite

Oooh! Thanks for the comments!!!!
Buh, guh, the face looks a LOT lighter than the body parts; I meant the face to sort of suggest the white painted, almost masklike faces of some of the ladies in Japanese art (or the guys dressed as ladies in japanese theatres), or almost be geisha-like, so I did want it to be lighter, but you're right - there IS quite a bt of contrast there! Something I'll look for next time!
The whole clavicle area is something I notice (afterwards!) I always over-emphasize. I think that's because I draw a lot of muscular males and had anatomy drilled into me; I forget to tone that down when I draw females. The space SHOULD look nice and delicate, but to my "used-to-drawing-muscles" eye it looks empty to me so I fill it in with tendons or (often) ornamentations. I think I have "horror vacui"! Next time I will be aware of that, and thank you! Comments like yours and WingedSiamese's help me see with a fresh eye and therefore improve! And of course I very much appreciate that. :)
