I'm sick to death of MySpace quality self-portraits...so here's a handy guide to taking a half-decent photo of yourself. Step away from the mirror and use it.
Its an unwritten law that if you have to take a photo from the top you are concealing your jabba the hutt like body.
You also forgot to mention the abuse of photoshop effects. Whilst useful for tweaking levels and colour balance, bleaching the face by wacking up the contrast destroys any intresting features they might have!
