I miss the way you smile,
I miss the way you laugh,
And I miss the way you’d say hello to me,
And the way you’d say goodbye.
But this time,
You just said goodbye.
I miss the way you talk
I miss the way you sing
And I miss the way you’d frown (when I did something mean)
And the way you’d say,
Everything would be okay.
But this time,
You didn’t say anything,
And you told me nothing.
Can you hear me?
I’m waiting for you,
Are you waiting for me?
Hours pass.
I wait by the phone
Waiting for you to call me,
And tell me it’s one big joke.
I keep an eye on the computer,
Waiting for you to sign on,
To text me ‘lol’.
As I wait,
My heart aches,
And my hands shake.
You’re still not there.
Days pass.
Still no sign of you.
I smile,
And wait up all night.
As I wrap up in my blanket,
And grab a cup of coffee.
I look through old drawings,
Writings, and trinkets.
They remind me of you.
Only you.
And just you.
I miss you.
I miss the way we’d play dress-up,
And make-pretend.
We were super heroes,
Spies and models.
Fighting side by side.
We would be great things.
Doctors, Astronauts, and Ballerinas.
Were some of our dreams.
I shut the book,
Close my eyes,
And try not to cry.
You never did like it when I wept.
Barely a week has passed.
My head hurts,
My eyes strain,
My body trembles,
My knees weak.
I disconnect the phone.
I turn off the computer.
You never did call,
And never did you text me.
I curl up in my blanket.
As I lay down,
Break down,
On the floor.
I dare not make a sound.
As I silently weep.
My mind filled with memories.
What happened in the last five years?
Can’t you see I’m crying?
Where are you?
To wipe away my tears?
Like you promised you would?
To always protect me,
And make me feel safe?
