Description

Well, I finished it completely!! Going to move the old one to scraps (so if anyone wants to see a larger version of just Scarecrow, head on over there). I know this probably doesn't make much sense if you have never played the game, Folklore, so I'll do my best to explain...

/REALLY BIG SPOILERS AHEAD/:

Anyway, the plot circles around an Irish girl named Ellen who has forgotten her past. She gets a letter from her mother one day, whom she thought was dead, telling her to come to the town of Doolin (a town where it is rumored that the living can meet the dead). Long story short, the woman /wasn't/ Ellen's mother, but was actually luring her there to kill her. This all happens in the very beginning and spurs of this /super/ complex puzzle of who Ellen is, who the journalist /Keats/ (the other main character -- a reporter for an occult magazine called to the town by a mysterious phone call begging for help) is and how everything in the town ties together. As I've mentioned before, the game is /gorgeous/ and all these whimsical creatures from the Netherworld (the world of the dead -- or rather, of memories -- which Ellen and Keats travel to to speak to the dead and discover different pieces of a 17 year old mystery). Each of them has guides that lead them about. Keats has a invisable gentleman named Belgae and Ellen has a scarecrow named...Scarecrow. Anyway, Scarecrow is /ZOMG WTF AMAZING/ he turns out to be the lynch pin in the whole plot. When Ellen was a little girl (her name was Cecilia then), she injured herself praying for her friend Herve, who was gravely ill (there was a legand in Doolin that if you pray to Faeries for nine days, your wish would be granted). Herve decided to sacrifice himself by giving her his blood so that she could live. Needless to say, Herve's parents blamed her for his death and reacted violently towards her. Her /real/ mother saved her and smuggled her away beneath The Henge and left her there. She was lonely and little and felt guilty that people had to die. Because of her subconcious wish that no one die unwarrented deaths, Scarecrow was wished into existance. As all halfalives are, Scarecrow was born to protect "little Cecilia", be her playmate throughout the lonely remenaints of her childhood, and grant her wish -- put a stop to all unwarrented deaths on earth. In the end, he becomes the final boss and Ellen had to stop him from actually /granting/ her wish (he was planning on absorbing the fear of death from the Netherworld Core and spreading it throughout the world, making everyone too paralyzed by fear to have conflicts with one another or do anything risky). Once we defeated him, he disappeared, due to the fact that "little Cecilia" had now become Ellen. And since his creator was no longer in existance, he too faded away. Let me tell you, IT WAS SO SAD!!! *cough* Anywho, back to the point, before all of this, Cecilia and Herve had a picture book that had a funny, playfull scarecrow in it. Hence why Scarecrow is a scarecrow at all. Cecilia also loved to draw and paint (and, trust me, this fondness plays a /big/ part in the story). So I just randomly decided to make this -- almost as if it was a drawing she did as a little girl. I had /TONS/ of fun, let me tell you. The page looks a little cluttered, but I know when /I/ doodle, the page looks a little shit as well.

/WHEW/!!! To those of you who actually read all that, /GOOD FOR YOU/!!
