So, when I get bored and want to draw, I've found that I like to go back to old drawings and retry them. I'm not really looking to do a perfect replica, or do an OMFGSOOUTSTANDING job on the redraw - just a quick, simple test of my progress. And so, here is another one.
This is a redraw of the drawing
-Kaina- from back in 2005. A lot has changed since, as you can see. (I'll post a side-by-side comparison in my Shareables in a bit). The style has changed quite a bit, and very much for the better in my opinion. I did alter a few details, such as her hairband's angle and her markings, but that was in an attempt to make them look less stupid than before. @.@
Anyway, major changes since 2005 in terms of art is the programming used. Back them, I used Photoshop simply for touching the drawing up and then colored in OpenCanvas v1.1. This new one was touched up and colored in Photoshop CS3 and the inking effect was done in Illustrator CS3 - the only thing I know how to do with Illustrator. AUTO-TRACE, WHOOO. Mistakes were made in the new one, but the point wasn't to be perfect so, oh well.
In case anyone cares and/or wonders, Kaina is/was from a now-defunct story that only exists in remants through the world I had been creating for it. The characters were far too generic, there was no story, and it was stupid all-in-all. The city and race names still remain through usage in other stories, but are generally unrelated to their original purpose. Sooo, yeah, nothing came of the story or the characters in it, including Kaina. Ah well. Happens, right?
