Henshoku Hikari
Red skies bathed the land in an eerie and dark aura. Screams echoed in the distance as dust blew through the once crowded streets. Along the city’s main street, almost all the citizens gathered around one spot. A huge crater, nearly forty yards wide and twenty deep remained were a small set of town houses once stood. Blood splattered everywhere and a single figure knelt in the little debris left. The feline, fur black with the black sky, blood oozing from a cut above his yellow eyes, could only stare in utter horror at the death and destruction around him as well as all the scared and vengeful eyes that gazed at him. The only ray of hope left to him was the other feline racing down to his aid before a bright flash and then nothingness . . . . .
Chapter 1 - - - That’s What I Call Myself
Jack Hikari, a young feline male with light blue fur with purple markings and a white muzzle awoke with a start. That same dream once again haunted his sleep as it had for the many years of his life. The four he could remember that is. He sat up on the couch he usually slept on, preferring the stiff sofa to the bed given to him by his, for lack of a better term, guardian. His thick blanket was once again left on a heap on the floor from the midnight thrashing, and the fluffy pillow was not far away. The room itself was still pitch black with the day before sunrise. The only light was the small digital clock on the cable box reading a very early 4:57.
Once Jack was upright, he tried to clear his thoughts with simple meditation, his last defense to total insanity. Once his head was mostly back on, he stood ant walked to the kitchen, his nighttime senses keener than the usual cat. He picked out a used glass from the sink and re filled it with water. Obviously this wasn’t the first time he had been awakened. He downed the glass in one go and filled it again, leaning over the sink and watching the glass fill again. Jack didn’t even flinch as the kitchen light came on and a blue vixen walked in. Her curvaceous body stood at about six foot five, only a little bit over Jack at six foot nothing.
“Another rough night?” she asked in a worried whisper, her teal eyes glowing slightly in the dark.
“Yeah . . . same thing as every night, Tina.” Jack replied quietly with a hoarse voice.
Tina, who was wrapped up in a large jacket, walked up to the tortured feline quietly and embraced him softly from behind, the coat hanging loose around her shoulders. The cat made little effort to hug back, too absorbed into his own internal chaos that Tina, while a troubled soul as well, could never begin to understand. How could she understand when Jack doesn’t even understand it? Time and time again he has been disturbed by that nightmare. His only solace was the gentle vixen behind him. He turned to her and ran his fingers through her long, dark brown hair and sighed in exhaustion.
Tina led the poor cat to the sofa again, sitting down with him and keeping the two of them wrapped up in the large coat. She gently pushed against his furred chest and had him lying down again. His simple tee shirt had been discarded a little while ago and Tina never really wore sleeping apparel anyway. She lay gently on his chest, letting her body warm his up under the trench coat as she cooed softly. He could only gaze back, unblushing of his current position even as she played with the plume of fur on his chest. He gave her a soft loving hug, uttering a short but very sweet sentence, and falling asleep for the third time that night.
“I love you, Sis.”
Once morning’s light touched his face, he was waking up once again, but slowly and calmly. Tina had already left, as she had usually done so by the time he woke up, and had left Jack to his usual routine. Even though he had no reason to be up anyway, he still liked to retain some discipline, a hard thing to do after spending hours tossing and turning. But even as last night’s weariness caught up to him, he stood and went right to the fridge, aiming for the last slice of cold pizza still in the tinfoil. He had it in his mouth, nibbling a little on the tip as he gathered the rest of his breakfast and sat down and watched a little TV. Same news, just a different day. He ate rather slowly, taking in what he had pretty much already knew. A robot riot here, mass chaos over there, demons this and demons that. The News station could videotape one day’s report and just play it every day and nobody would really notice the difference. Wait a minute, is that the same suit the anchorwoman was wearing yesterday . . . and the day before?
I guess it really didn’t matter much anymore. No one ever really saw the demons before, and their attacks were never public knowledge, or even seemed to concern the public. It was hard to say what was really going on. All Jack knew was, he was late for class. He changed into new pants and a shirt, both black, and laced up his shoes. He left and locked the door behind him and started his walk in the crisp winter air. His home was the usual city block, tightly packed boarding houses and a bit of graffiti on the walls. The graffiti was actually asked for, Tina’s landlord loving the art style when it’s tasteful. He continued to walk, quietly observing the clouded streets, crammed full of people. Class wasn’t far from home; just a few minute walk. Jack opened the door and stepped into the large building, he started to walk to class; but he stopped when he heard a commotion in the main lobby. He turned slightly, and saw a green vixen running past him screaming “I WILL NOT CALM DOWN” a couple of professors followed her at a sprint. Jack eyes widen slightly; he hurried to class.
Later, in class; he looked up from his computer. He saw the same green vixen walk into the class and sit next to him. She set her things down and turned on the computer; slightly smiling at him. He smiled back, slowly examining her. She had long brown hair, half of it covering half of her eye; with red tips. “It doesn’t look like regular hair dye” he thought softly to himself. She was wearing a black hoodie and really baggy jeans; that she had to pull up from her thighs to her hips every few minutes. Jack caught a side swept of her eyes; they gleamed like rubies. He only felt slightly attracted to her; because she looked like someone who killed for a living. He then turned back away; trying to pay attention to the screen, he couldn’t help but feel a certain hatred for the vixen; something about her made his heart rage inside of him. He tried to pay attention, but her weird behavior bothered him for half of the class period. When the time for class ended came, Jack stood up and quickly walked out of the door; a feeling of relief flooded him when he got away. “Something about her bothers me, maybe it is because its how I saw her before, in the hallway” he thought anxiously as he neared his next class. He opened the door to the class room and went to the back of the room and sat down; getting ready to breeze through the class. This was History. He slightly closed his eyes, when he heard her voice again. “Hi, Im Nynn; im a new student here” Jack groaned as she sat not far from him; he kept on his toes the rest of the class period.
He exited class a few seconds from the bell, happy that he could go home once again. As he was walking to the doors, he felt someone tap his shoulder, he turned seeing Nynn standing behind him; her hands on her hips. “Why were you staring at me In Computer Graphics class?” her voice accused him; hitting him like a wave. He opened his mouth open to the side and groaned softly, “I wasn’t STARING at you” he answered coolly back. Nynn chortled, her eyes danced “It looked like staring to me” she grabbed his hands and set them on her breast, squeezing his hands to squeeze her large globes. Jack jumped back angrily, pulling his hands away; his hands almost burned at the touch. Nynn seemed to notice it to; she looked at her bosoms weirdly. She glared up at him and snarled “Why did that burn?” Jack glared at her, and then glanced to his hands; suddenly a voice began to speak inside of his head. “Oooo, she could be trouble” then it disappeared, he couldn’t feel anything bouncing around in his head anymore.
He shook his head and heard Nynn scream “TALK TO ME FELINE!” Jack jumped back again, scared; he heeded the warning “I don’t know, im sorry” he turned and ran out of the building. As Jack walked home, he felt someone following him; the burning sensation began to grow within his fingertips. He quickened his pace, and took a sharp right into an alley. He turned and found Nynn in front of him again, her eyes a very bizarre color of red and yellow. “Would you stop following me?!” he answered both coolly and frightened. She shook her head “There’s smoothing within you that is bothering you . . . no?” her voice remained as cool and collected, as she examined his body.
Jack clenches his fists and teeth; refusing to answer. His hands started to shake and burn even more. Nynn grabbed his hands and snarled lightly “Hold still, Hikari” She pulled off his gloves, his finger tips were glowing a soft orange. He glared at her, she let go and turned; running off at a fast sprint. The burning went away, and the orange faded. He stared after her “. . . What’s her problem? What frightened her off?” He sighed and shook his head; grabbing his gloves and heading off to the gym to think.
Heading out of the locker room, he headed to the blades room; where he daily practiced his swordsmanship, so in case he had to protect himself with one; he wouldn’t be stiff. He knew his way around the room like the back of his palm; he called to the computer that operated the room. “Any new constants for Jack Hikari?” he spoke coolly into a speaker on the wall. The computer answered in a female robotic voice, “Jack Hikari, has One Unknown opponent” He looked quizzically at the speaker “What is his name?” the computer answered back “This is unknown, good luck Mr. Hikari” He turned, sighing; he didn’t like it when the person who he’d be training with wouldn’t tell the computer who they were. He smoothed out his black shorts and white t-shirt; he then grabbed his preferred bokken and waited leaning on his left leg for his opponent.
A few seconds later, a dark figure entered the room. A Red Mask was worn on their face; the rest of their body was covered with black clothing. It looked as if it had no hair, he turned to see; and saw that he was correct. The figure spoke “Hikari?” questioning to see if it was the correct opponent. It sounded as if though the voice was gruffer. But Jack ignored that fact, and assumed immediately that it was a man. “That’s who I am, but don’t mind me asking who you are?” The man reached behind his back and pulled out a long slick silver blade; it gleamed threateningly in the light. He eventually answered as he skimmed the top of his gloved finger along the edge of the blade “That isn’t important, lets just see what you’ve got Hikari” it then grunted and jumped into the sky, landing in front of him. Jack crossed his fingers in front of him, and leaned between them; “Im going to warn you Dark Figure” he named him, to avoid embarrassment of calling the man ‘Guy’ “Im very good with my blades”
He rushed back, his feet gracefully following each other in a crossing pattern. The man chortled loudly, and then went into a stance, almost a crouching position. Jack knew better, never to rush at his opponent until he saw a weak spot; apparently both of them knew this. “Remember, this is only practice” Jack reminded himself; and his mind. Quickly trying to relax his anxious heart. The man suddenly rushed forward and started to swing at Jack’s sides. Jack easily dodged each swing; he changed his styles a bit, opting for slower but more precise attacks. He then swung at the man, who ducked and swung at his feet; Jack leaped up and did a flip over the man, landing softly on his feet. “Always did say, Cats always land on their feet” the man joked loudly to the two of them. Just as the man said that, he noticed ears bent back inside of what looked like a mask; Jack wanted to know who he was going against. So he would try and find out as soon as he could. He rushed at the male and did another flip over him, grabbing his mask and slickly pulling it off of his face. He landed with his back to him, he stared at the mask; then slowly turned around. It was a white elegant cat; hair fell to its shoulders, which was also pitch white. He then looked to the cats eyes, finding them delicately shaped almost like a mans. “Oh thanks a lot Hikari” the cat snatched her mask out of his hands “You gave away my cover stupid” she covered her face again, but not paying attention to keeping her hair tucked inside. She then grabbed her blade and swung at him, continuing the fight that she started. Jack was easily more powerful then her, but she proved to be good with the blade. She was panting as she then; stopped being slow in her movements, suddenly she picked up speed. Jack pressed his already tired body; the clanging of their swords echoed throughout the gym. Jack was elegant with his sword, while the vixen was very clumsy and swung her sword heavily; instead of putting all of the weight into her legs. Instead, she used her toes for support, and held her sword with her hands, and not her upper arms.
Eventually, the feline fell to her knees and gave up; panting heavily, she was sweating profusely. Jack nodded to her, and then went to turn around, when he heard a grunting sound. He turned back around and found the vixen’s body spazzing and twitching, the sweat turned into a darker liquid; she looked up and twitched again “.D...Do...Dont. Let them . . . take you...” another spazzed “Over” She grasped his leg “. . . They’ll kill you . . . if you let...” another twitch “them . . . down” she then collapsed, her body writhing in pain as screams escaped her throat, and then all was silent. Jack kneeled to her side and too her wrist, and pressed his fingers into her wrist. He felt nothing, her pulse had died. He stood up and stepped away; she had died. He staggered over to the wall, looking as if he could puke at any second. Death never stood easily with him. He bent over and looked to her again, finding the cats sweat had turned red; blood was oozing out of her body. Jack fell to his hands and started to sweat, he was about to hurl when he heard a scream. He turned, sitting on his hip; a crowd of people were at the door. They all stared at her in horror, and then glared at Jack. He gasped and found it was harder to breath; it was his dream all over again. He felt someone grab him from behind and covered his mouth; picked him up and quickly pulled him out of the room screaming “LEAVE GO!!! NOTHINGS HAPPENED HERE” a bright flash appeared, then nothing.
Jacks eyes opened, he blinked and rubbed his eyes; noticing that the ground below him was moving quickly, and he was bouncing about. “Graww’ he groaned, he saw two red and green tails below him. “Huh?!” he jumped and found himself meeting the ground quickly. He looked up and looked about, he saw Nynn, who was standing angrily above him. She shook her head and turned, running off. Jack jump up to his feet, slowly rising to a complete stand; he looked around and saw that he was only a couple of feet away from his doorstep. She rubbed his eyes again; unable to decipher what just happened.
A couple of weeks later- Jack always placed next to Nynn in class, who always ignored him; or made a big scene about the topic of the day. He would subtly agree, she was right; he just wished she’d shut up. But one day, when he remembered the day the white cat died, he remembered seeing her; but he could never really figure out why he had seen her when he awoke. He thought of the possibilities that she had saved him from the onlookers rage, but quickly pushed it away; to confused he would just drop the thought. He kept his confusion to himself, until one day in the class. . .
“I really don’t think that we need to learn how life was created, not a lot of people really care about it “Nynn said, half to herself. Jack sighed and leaned on his arms, he glanced at her “Hover, don’t you EVER shut up?” Nynn flicked her hand at him, showing him the finger “No, don’t you ever think to thank people?” she snapped back. Jack confused raised his right brow “What?” Nynn shook her, when the teacher shushed them. Jack grabbed his note book and scribbled ‘What’ into it. He slid the book to her and she glanced at it, grabbing her pen she wrote “Isn’t it Obvious Stupid?” He glared at her “No, sorry; my brain isn’t where it’s supposed to be right now” he scribbled back. “Yeah, I know your ass must hurt from carrying it all the time; but I figure; your head needs a break too” She chuckled as she slid the book back to him; he glared “I set myself up for that” he grumbled softly. “Could you just please tell me what I need to thank you for?!” Nynn sighed and grabbed the notebook, she wrote. “Stupid, a couple of weeks ago you faced a White Cat no? Well; she was possessed by a devil. She died because of a reason you will not understand. People obviously thought you killed her, but I got you out of there” she paused and rolled her wrist before continuing “That’s why you should thank me, I saved your fucking life. When I was at your house, you decided to jump out of my arms; I decided that you would figure I did something for you because you weren’t at the gym anymore. But you came to class anyway, and acted as if nothing happened. You Dickhead; I will continue no more. So stop bother’ me” She pushed the notebook to Jack and leaned back, closing her eyes. Jack read it slowly, then wrote once more “Why? . . . Why’d you do it?” he pushed it back, she groaned and read it over. “Because Hikari, Devils are there for each other, no matter how much you hate them” The bell rang, and she stood; swiftly she walked out of the classroom. Jack stared at the word “Devils” he blinked, and looked up; he stood up and walked out of the room. The word haunted him for the rest of the day.
Jack stayed up all night, so when daylight broke. He decided to go out window shopping, finding nothing better to do. He walked into the nearest clothing store, glancing right and left looking at all the clothes he wouldn’t or could never have. He heard a disturbance in the ladies section and looked over. Clothes were moving, he saw a gray tail swish menacingly from the clothes. “GET OUT” his head screamed at him, but he was too curious; and walked to the rack. The person within it chuckled “They always did say Curiosity killed the cat” Jack stayed in place, reaching forward pushing the clothes away. A Fox slowly came out of hiding, a gray one. The male fox had black markings under his eyes, and a long blade in a sword holster. His eyes were narrowed and he brushed off his long trench coat. “Hello there, Teufel”

Cat, I find this to have a great, poetic feel to it, while keeping it's novelity(lol, new word). Alright, what happens next um. Here we go.
The grey fox had a grim smirk on his slender face. "I knew that you and I would meet again" he remarked. Jack took a few short steps back. "What do you mean, I don't know you." Jack muttered. " It seems you chose a weak inhabitant this time, it won't even let you remember us." uttered the mysterious fox. "It's us, Odio!" Jack stepped back further, in fear now. " I gotta go, bye!" he stuttered, and he started to flee. Odio's eyes narrowed down. " What a fool." He then started towards Jack.
And done.
