Hurting

There never seem to be enough people
who know what it’s like when
your breath is taken away
and you can’t get it back but,
you really don’t care, it feels too good

More people are familiar with
what happens when you see someone
and they’re perfect, physically
your heart jumps in your breast painfully but
it also feels good

I swear that no one knows
exactly what it’s like to see this same person
smile at you, greet you kindly
like one of your best friends
while his hand is in hers…

Her sweetness, kind manners would keep
him at her side, wanting more
of the tenderness that comes from
loving someone close to you
and you’d never want to let go

Every day, I wonder what it would be like
to be what she is to him, someone
to keep in your deepest of hearts, always
nobody else would be able to come between you
Their bodies say it all

I would have been able to overcome
her devotion to him, her sweetness
that keeps him at her side, always,
I feel the pain that would come from hurting her
until I remember how much he hurt me

Remembering the sweetest of dances
when we were but children
awkward hands and eyes kept us apart,
But I can’t help remembering
how good it was to be in his arms

Their babble with the group, with each other
masks their true feelings for each other,
their hands brush, he takes hers
they smile and keep talking
I’m the only one who see it

Their feelings, their love, it stabs me in the heart
the pain could not have been worse
if they’d knifed me in the back
I’m not shock when my eyes tear up but,
I can’t believe my tears aren’t blood
