Oh my word.
What a long, hard picture.
Took even longer to complete than 'Seascape' but is only half as good. Bleh. Whatchya gonna do?
Well, anyway, to describe:
This is a fanart piece for one of my most favoritest games, Dynasty Warriors 4 (and it's subsequent installments, I suppose, including the latest Dynasty Warriors 6. Woot!) which includes one of my most, if not absolute, favorite character in the DW series, Zhao Yun.
The game is based on ancient Chinese battles and hero figures from that era.
The story goes (basically) that Zhao Yun (guy on the right) was assiting his lord, Liu Bei, in escaping from in the region of Chang Ban, because a big bad army (lol) of a million men, was coming after them, and Liu Bei didn't have the means to fight back, so they were on the run.
Anyway, while they were retreating, news came to the front that, in their haste to escape, Liu Bei's infant son, Liu Chan, was left behind in a castle somewhere.
Naturally, Zhao Yun being the macho and insanely cool guy that he is, turned about on his horse and rode back to get the baby without asking anyone for a second opinion.
He ended up being surrounded by the enemy army once he had the baby in his posession, and kicked hundreds of their sorry butts in order to escape and reunite with Liu Bei, who was incidentally upset that Zhao Yun had risked his life in such a way, but so relieved to see one of his best generals was still alive.
In the picture, the guy on the left is Zhang He, an officer from the bad guy army of Wei. He's out causin' trouble and giving hunky ol' Zhao Yun some grief.
The baby I tucked into Zhao Yun's robe thingy, 'cause I thought it was cute. So there.
I'd say the hardest part about drawing this picture was their outfits and Zhao Yun's many "ouchies". Hey, he got his butt kicked a bit as well; wouldn't you, if you were against a million other guys? Thought so.
Anyway, I found blood to be an odd thing to draw; hard to decipher it's movements.
And the hands! AUGH! I am so ASHAMED of them. Grrrargh! They look so cartoony. I'm not sure what went wrong, but it went wrong big time.
Phew. You actually read all that?! I salute you!

I don't really see the problem with the hands, well, maybe a tad, but it gives them more personality and the baby tucked away in Zhao Yun's shirt is too cute and that's how I depicted him running away, since it's the only way of really protecting the little boy.
Zhang He looks evil lol, I love the expression on his face.
I'm overwhelmed with all the details you added in this, it looks truely stunning. *faves*

Ah, yes. Anyway, first off, W00TY W00T! Zhao Yun! Zhang He . . . eh, bleh. But ya did a good job drawin' 'im anyways.
A very nice job indeed, with the wrinkles and shading and all that good stuff. DAT BEEBY! I kiss his widdle head! And he wouldn't be the only thing I'd kiss *cough*Yun*cough*. But I'd have to clean him up first.
I know this sounds stupid, but that horse really grabs my attention. I dunno why, but maybe because it's moving or something and there's a man in front of it.
AH! And you did an excellent job on the armor designs I must say. And the shape of Zhang He's claws you aced. (something that would make me dose up on ibuprofen).
Also, you got Zhao Yun's spear like, ruler-straight. Even when I use a ruler I mess up half a bazillion times, and sure, the stupid thing will be straight but all smudgy from erasing.
Oh well. There's a lot of things I could say, but you'd be reading my comment for half an hour.

I keep thinking the horsie's foot is Zhang He's arm. But that's just me being stupid, lawl.
