Okay, this was kind of......spontaneous....See, my painting teacher has been absent for the past three days, she at this confrence thing in New Orleans...So, I spent the last 2 days doodling with oil paint~ My favorite medium~~~
And this thing came out. It looked cool, so i decided to put a name on it, and then I came up with this reeeeally cool concept and I decided that it was good enough to make this thing the next installment of my monster collection.This is ALMOST all oil. I did a bit of editing in PS. I made the eye brighter and more colorful, made the blue more BLUE, and I used a reduce noise filter to get rid of some of the canvas grain. And added my water mark of course~
So here's this dude's info:
Death-Hoppers used to be humans, but severe physical mutations and heavy DNA-altering drug use trigger's a mutant reaction in a certain few that posses a certain gene. Their bodies eventually loose any tolerance of the drug they are using, and stretch and twist an individual's body, using up massive amounts of energy, eventually consuming most of the individual's somatic cells, leaving a twisted skeletal animalistic figure. They have no purpose anymore, they live for nothing. They survive on sunlight(they generate energy photosynthetically like plants), and minerals from the ground in rocks of the hottest deserts. They produce a black pigment to absorb as much light as possible. Since they have nothing left of a mind, they do not know when to stop consuming minerals, only when they cannot physically carry anymore, they start to leak out, and be expelled through vomiting. Death-Hoppers are benign creatures about the size of a large horse and are found in extremely hot flat rocky deserts. Places like Death Valley, where almost nothing can live, and where sunlight is abundant. They are visually characterized by black quadrupedal skeleton like bodies with long tails, sometimes with fleshy limbs, and typically are missing one or two due to their nature of origin(instead of sabotaging only flesh, their body will eat up entire limbs during their transformation). They lack hind feet, instead they have long bony spear like extensions of their lower leg bones, which they use to hop around at high altitudes in the air of up to 150ft. They have 2 blank glowing eyes of any color. From their gut and throat region do they ooze a blue gelatin like substance that steadily leaks out and drips through their ribs. This is the stored excess of their 'food'. The street name for this coveted material is 'tar-baby jelly', its difficult to harvest because of the hoppers' violent nature when anything tries to touch them, but when harvested, and treated correctly, this mineral rich jelly can be used as a rapid healing agent, and, ironically, a cure for drug addictions. During the day, they hop, and expel their surplus nutrients by coughing them up, the droplets dissolve instantly as they hit the ground. At night, they hop, and 'sing' to the stars. When I say 'sing', I mean they screech in a hoarse voice filled with anguish and sorrow, as it they were begging to the constellations for forgiveness and a second chance at life.
everything © me (Kori DID help a LOT with part of the concept. So she gets so credit too~

)
PS -- These aren't exactly 'playable characters' due to their lack of personality, but just ask me, and you can use them if you want~

o.o Very, very cool, but the one thing I don't quite get...why, if they're photosynthetic and are able to already consume minerals, would they ever have a need to hop? I would expect hopping to come from a predator in such settings, since being able to leap could eliminate an indigenous prey's ability to feel vibrations on the ground...If it's just for locomotion, I don't quite understand why it would be used instead of just simply walking or running - hopping is a pretty dangerous form of locomotion, and can be rather ineffective in desert / wasteland environments since the ground tends to be unstable and hide things that would absolutely freak out if something big landed near them...Ehehe...sorry, m'a Zoology major ^^ *shuts up*

That style! You remind me of another artists who uses that. =D Very good job once more.

This is so cool! The way you drew/colored it makes it look like an old photograph! Like it isn't cris[ like your other arts but it makes this one look so cool! Like an archived photo in an old encyclopedia or somethimg. Great job Bali~~

Know whats really freaky? There was a recent article in the Times about scientists trying to make a cure for addictions
; Why go through all that trouble when they could just steal the blue jelly tar? (oh yes, I read it all
