Almost everyone's heard of the classic game Galaga. You know the one... firing at bug-like aliens in outerspace, getting captured by one and then rescuing it for double the firepower. Certainly a classic!
But I don't think many people know of Gaplus. It's the sequel to Galaga, referred to in some parts as Galaga 3 (for some odd reason). It presented some new features such as more movement on the screen, more varied stages, and weapon enhancements from upgraded fire to a tractor beam that could capture enemy aliens for a change. How's THAT, Galaga?
The downfall I can see in Gaplus is the up'd difficulty; you have to know how to get around these games if you expect to get far in Gaplus. Things will go well until Parsec 4, where it could easily panic a person just by the mood.
As a tribute, I made this little doo-wop, where I took the Gaplus ship (fascinatingly in three components) and remade them through Flash. Yeah, you get a little presentation for comparison. It's no game, and it's no full-on animation, so don't expect too much. ;3
If you've never played Gaplus, you get your chance in both Namco Museum Vol. 2 for the PSOne and Namco Museum Remix for the Wii. You could also go the route of MAME, but I'd be foolish to endorse emulation (directly). It is a fun game to try out.
