An idea I had... how Nightmaren are born.
The red and black stuff is supposed to be the 'cocoon' of sorts, in which the Nightmaren grow until they are mature. They're only babies...
But here, Reala seems to be 'recharging' or being in some sort of comatose state in order to recover from bad injuries - physical and psychological.
