landscape (values)

I wanted to work on landscapes and backgrounds, so I just randomly sat down an hour or two ago and sketched this. I found a little workshop on imagineFX.com (check it out!) about concept scenery, and found it very interesting that the artist started in black and white before adding colour. No idea whether I myself will at colour, or continue at all, so I'll post this as 'complete'.
Working just with values was great practice though–it's tougher than it looks. I played around with the lighting a ton, and I still don't have it quite the way I wanted it, but I won't do anything unless I colour it. Critique is very much welcomed and appreciated, however!
The figure was just for fun, since I love painting people, most of all.

Last work before going to the Dominican Republic for a week!! yessss!!
