Fate of the World Ch 6
Chapter Six
Ekioshia’s body was throbbing when she awoke from an unsettling slumber. She felt her muscles had been frozen in icy water. Her eyes slid open, casting a hateful, chilling blue stare to the wooden floor under her. Ekioshia’s hands were bound in rope, as well as her feet. They were thick, and usually she could’ve easily broken through them, but at the moment she had no strength at all. A thick piece of cloth wrapped her mouth, smelling musty and making her breath warm and strained. She was light headed. Ekioshia rubbed the cloth on her shoulder to get it out from under her nose. She looked around the room after she had taken some deep, full breaths of cold air. Her friends were bound as well, sitting in a circle, their backs facing inward. All were asleep. She sighed and returned her gaze to the ground. At first she had thought it was all just a horrible dream, and she would only have traces of the horror when she awoke, but everything was real, there was no escaping the truth. She was captured. She blinked her icy blue, deep, serine eyes three or four times before she heard Kiki shift beside her. She looked over at Ekioshia, sending her a sad, longing look. She returned it, and slightly pulled down Kiki’s mask, keeping her from talking down with her nose. Kiki nodded a thank you, and Ekioshia closed her eyes for a couple seconds to show she was welcome. The two hopped so their backs were facing each other. Kiki did her best to flatten her tightly bound ropes binding her hand, and Ekioshia placed her hands on hers. The monsters very well knew humans could communicate, but nobody other than the orphans knew about their very own type of secret speech; Gureisu. It was spoken by the receiver placing her hands flat, and the sender making signals onto the receiver’s flat hands. By age five all orphans could speak it without strain; it was used only in time of need or telling something that was not meant to be heard. Ekioshia made quick hand signals onto Kiki’s hand. ‘Are you all right?’ Ekioshia placed her hands flat and waited as she thought. ‘Define ‘all right’’ Kiki went into the receiver position. ‘Yes, I suppose you’re right. What I meant was, do you have any noticeable injuries?’ Ekioshia felt her friend search her body, and her head go back to leaning on Ekioshia’s. ‘No, I suppose I’m fine, other than my pride completely stripped from me. It’s unbelievable we were beaten by mere ogres.’ Ekioshia nodded. ‘I agree, but they wouldn’t have had a chance if that person-’ ‘Thing.’ Kiki interrupted. ‘Fine, thing, stopped our barrages. There would’ve been no hope for escape if that thing hadn’t interrupted.’ ‘Act asleep.’ Ekioshia and Kiki turned back to their original positions, and bent their heads in mock slumber. The door was slung open, and slammed shut unnecessarily loud again. Ekioshia took it as a sign of hatred and scorn. The two turned back to each other. ‘Is everyone here?’ Kiki asked. Ekioshia’s eyes skimmed the room. About fifteen, half of the orphans were in the room. ‘No. We’re missing half of us. I take it they separated us in order to keep from organized escape. These are either really smart ogres-’ Kiki gave a muffled giggle at that, ‘or they have a somewhat smart leader.’ ‘Right. Let’s wait for everyone to wake up before we conclude any more; I don’t want to spoil the fun for anyone.’ Kiki flipped to the receiver position, ‘That’s a first. I thought you loved spoiling fun.’ Ekioshia laughed, ‘Yes, but not this time.’ Even Kiki gave a small chuckle. Everyone had woken up, and after every eye’s blur had faded, the door flung wide open. There stood a tall, menacing woman, average looking, with a smirk plastered on her face. “Hello, worthless, harmless filth,” Her voice was dark, cold, and threatening. “My name is Mei Hoshi, but you will refer to me as Hoshi Senpai.”
“I am your new teacher.”
