Insomniac

It's one of those nights where - not for lack of trying
You can't fall asleep 'cause you're too scared of dying
Visions of friends and loved ones dance through your head
Except in your dreams they're already dead.

Rhyming is never your greatest priority.

You jerk from your slumber, drenched in sweat
Convinced last night's dream was the worst one yet
But sleep drags you to its breast once again
And nothing on earth can force it to end.

Just keeping your eyes closed is a blessing itself.

The only thing that chases your demons away
Is when the arms of a lover keep them at bay
But even this comfort can become fucking stale
And soon it's their face you're watching grow pale.

It's a goddamn double-edged sword.

You wish you never had to sleep again
Or at least realize that it's all just pretend
But the monsters get you every single night
They drain you of joy and fill you with fright.

Exhaustion... or terror?

Your grades start to suffer as in class you rest
You're sleeping through lectures and failing the tests
Get bitchy at your boss when she tries to help
How can you explain it's a failure of self?

Just fuck it all.

What do you do when it becomes to much?
Just drown it with drugs, and liquor, and such?
And what if your morals are too strong for that?
You could make it all end with the drop of a hat...

There's gotta be another way.

I get insomnia. It affects how I act around those I love, and the choices I make. Not fun.

bad experience - ever had sleep deprivation hallucinations?

like the irony in the second stanza. 'rhyming is never your greatest priority' but you have couplets everywhere .
