Kokoro no Suna~Song 6

Kokoro no Suna
Song 6

Ayame awoke from a light sleep. Her new aquaintance was sitting in the open window sill watching the sun rise above the dunes of sand past the open Sunagakure gate. His normally fluffy hair was wet and flat to his head. He was sitting only in his pants and gave Ayame the idea that he'd just taken a shower. Ayame slept in low-cut pair of black pants and an oversized black t-shirt that she bought from the local shop. Being an Uchiha, her budget wasn't exactly low. Though she didn't carry much on her, she had enough for some new clothes that she could wear instead of her normal ripped garb.

The heavy sand gourd that Gaara normally carried around on his back was leaned against the wall beneath the window of which he was perched. His head quickly turned toward Ayame when her heard her rise from her cot on the floor.

Letting out a big yawn, Ayame greeted Gaara with a "Good Morning" and scratched the back of her messy black hair.

Gaara examined her in the medium light and asked what was on his mind.

"I thought last night... I thought your hair was orange. And your eyes. I thought they were green... What happened?"

Ayame looked down at her hands. Her little pink finger nails rested on her long dainty fingers instead of black claws.

"I'm normal again?" Ayame said to no one with a bit of excitement.

"Normal?" Gaara asked curiously.

"Remember how you told me that you had a demon inside you?" Ayame asked.

Gaara nodded in confirmation.

"I kindof, well recently... I got one too. It made my eyes and my hair get all weird, I guess."

"You have a demon?" Gaara asked in surprise.

"Yeah... It was my brother. He was going to try and destroy the demon by killing me, but I attacked him and he ran away," Ayame looked down at her short toes.

"I guess... we're two of the same," Gaara stated quietly.

A silence strangled the room for a few moments as Gaara looked out the window again towards the sun.

"So... I'm still an academy student. Is there an academy I can register in and continue my training?" Ayame said to terminate the silence.

Gaara nodded and stepped off the window sill. Ayame grabbed her newly bought clothes and ran into the bathroom to change. Gaara's house was rather nice for an eight-year-old living on his own. It had a kitchen with a fridge, oven, and sink. A tiny black and white T.V. probably from when he was still with his father in his bedroom, which just had a closet with a rack of clothes on it. The T.V. was quite dusty, with not finger prints so Gaara must not have watched must T.V.
There was one bathroom. The dining room was in the middle of the kitchen. Just a small table with two chairs.

Getting ready with the toiletries that Ayame bought along with her clothes, she met Gaara in the hallway leading to the door. Gaara had already brushed his teeth and taken a shower before Ayame woke up so Gaara just slung his gourd over his shoulder as Ayame slipped her shoes onto her small feet.

"Ready?" Gaara asked.

"Ready." Ayame replied with a smile.

Gaara watched her walk out the door as he followed behind then took the lead so he could show Ayame the way to the academy.

In the light, when Ayame was able to concentrate on other things rather than keeping alive, the village of Sunagakure was actually kind of pleasant. There were no trees, but there was alot of strange birds and kiosks everywhere. Alot of the people looked the same... Most of the grown male shinobi wore cloth around their shaved heads, and the women wore very non-revealing clothes. Not that that was bad but just more non-revealing than Ayame was used to. As they walked, Ayame noticed a huge spherical building in the middle of the village. It had many windows and a large banner on the side that read: "Kazekage".

Gaara saw Ayame staring at the large building.

"That's where my father is. It a combonation of his house and the village h.q.", Gaara noted.

"Does he not know that you're going to the academy? Wouldn't he object to that?", Ayame asked.

"He's well aware... He just doesn't want to cause a commotion in the academy. Who would appreciate a Kazekage who is attempting to kill his own son?"

With each word Gaara's voice grew more and more angry. The mere mention of his father's name put him in a vicious mood and Ayame could sense the tension just out of the aura he dispensed through his speech. As they kept walking the academy came into view. Just like every other building, it was made of hardened sand with painted decor on the wall both inside and out. No one was there except a few scary looking teachers who were walking through the halls and an occasional poisonous looking bug in the corners of the classrooms.

Gaara led little Ayame into an office like area with a classroom across the hall. From the outside, the village seemed primitive, but from within, technology was well applied. They had nice looking desks, and the classrooms weren't sand on the inside. They were sheetrock painted a tan eggshell. The chalk boards were clean and the chairs were new. Over all, the Academy was pretty neat. Ayame almost let excitment cross her mind, but that's kind of hard when her parents died about a week ago.

A dangerous looking kunoichi was sitting at the desk in the office writing a list of supplies needed for the outdoor training classes until she noticed Gaara's deathglare out of her perrerferal vision. A quick twitch at the sight this the redheaded insomniac almost made her drop all of her anonymous documents.

"Uh... Um. H-Hello Gaara... How are you t-today?", She choked out from fear of being killed in an instant by his homocidal tendencies.

He let out a growl then droned his low voice in her direction without making eye contact.

"A new student wishes to apply for the academy... she already has plenty of experience with shinobi ways so she is able to attend my grade level of academy... If you need proof the-"

"Oh we'll just sign her in right here...," The kunoichi spout out.

Gaara stopped talking. Looking her directly into the eye as if he was going to tear her soul from her very body, he said three very influencial words

"Don't. Interrupt. Me..."

"R-right...,"

As Ayame was asked a series of questions, filled out an application for the academy, and took a test to demonstrate her abilities at her current level, Gaara was standing in the hallway squishing bugs with sand along the cracks in the floor. Teachers, as they got close, took another hallway in order to avoid crossing paths with the little insomniac but he didn't mind much.

After a few hours the kunoichi studied Ayame's applications and answers to her test.

"You are now an official student of Sunagakure Academy. Congradulations," She spewed excitedly.

Ayame gave a quick bow and gathered her schedule. Meeting Gaara outside, they set off for some food then continued on daily activities of anonymous names. Every moment of the waking light they had spent together, Gaara was taking a liking to her more and more as she spoke of her past and her family without flinching at the eye contact she recieved from him. Maybe he wasn't such a monster after all.
