Legend of Zelda ES: chapter 5
Chapter five: Sadness and Confusion
Later that night......
Zelda lies awake in bed. Her ankle was ok now, but something in her heart was bothering her. "Why was I unable to even talk to him then?" Zelda thinks to herself, "It's not like I like him or anything." She gets up out of bed, and walks over to Link's room. She then knocks on the door. "Link," says Zelda, "Are you still awake?" Link opens the door. "Yes Zelda?" says Link. "Link," says Zelda, "you were going to say something before the moblins showed up. What was it that you wanted to tell me?" "Come on in." says Link, "After everything you told me about your mother, maybe I should tell you about my own loss."
"Your loss?" says Zelda as she sits down on the bed. Link sits down next to her. "Tell me Zelda," says Link, "how much do you truly know of my story?" "Let's see...." says Zelda, "The legend states that Ganon sought out the Triforce to fulfill his dark wishes. You were transported seven years into the future when you got the Master Sword from the Temple of Time. You had the Triforce of Courage, the original Zelda had the Triforce of Wisdom, and Ganon had the Triforce of Power. When you rescued the seven sages, you faced off against Ganon. You defeated him, and Zelda sent you back the seven years to live your missed childhood." Link looks at the back of his hand. He had almost forgotten he even had the Triforce of Courage.
"After you returned from your trip through time," Zelda continued, "You warned the king of Ganon's plans. Then, you set out on a quest to find the fairy Navi. You saved Termina from Majora, but you were unable to find Navi. You returned to Hyrule three years later to find Ganon had set into motion the events that occurred before. This time however, you defeated him before he took over Hyrule, and regained the Triforce of Courage. However, he came back at least three more times after that. And each time, you sent him packing."
"I see." says Link, "I figured that it wouldn't have been told." "What?" says Zelda. "The fourth and final time Ganon showed himself." says Link, "You see, it was exactly seven years after I warned the king about Ganon. Apparently, Ganon had found a new weapon for himself. The Arrow of Darkness it was called. It is said that whoever is killed with that arrow will have their soul sent into a nexus, never to return. Ganon tried to use the Arrow of Darkness on me, but....." Link turns away for a second, holding back his tears. "The princess." says Zelda, "Don't tell me that....."
"When Ganon shot that arrow," Link continued, "she jumped infront of me. The arrow hit her right in the heart. There was nothing I could do. She..... She died in my arms." Zelda was in shock. She could not believe what she had just heard. The princess of the legends sacrificed herself for Link. "Please remember," says Link, "that I always loved you'. Those were her dying words to me. After putting her to rest, I set off after Ganon. I stormed his tower win vengeance on my mind. But, it was all a trap. He knew he couldn't win, so with his dying breath, he sent me through time. He also said that centuries later, he would return, and that there would be no way to stop him. But, I was freed from his spell, and thus I am here in this time period. And it seems, right as Ganon is about to make his move."
"You still love her right?" says Zelda, "The original Zelda?" "I think you know the answer to that." says Link, "If only there was someway I could have stopped Ganon, none of this would have happened." His face then gets a serious look over it. "However, this time I will make sure that he never returns again. I'll make sure that he truly pays for what he did to her."
Zelda then puts her arms around Link. "I am so sorry for you." says Zelda, "I know I look like her, but yet, I am not. But I know in my heart that she's watching over you now." "Tell me," says Link, "today when I was carrying you home, you wanted to talk to me. But, for some reason, you were unable to say a word. I've been noticing a change in you Ze. So I must know now, what are your feelings towards me?" Zelda tried to answer him. If he asked her the first time they met, she would have said that she didn't have feeling for him at all. But now.... Now she was unsure what she felt. "I..." says Zelda, "I have no answer for you Link. I'm trying to figure it out, but I.... My mind is so confused when it come to you Link. Just..... Just drop it. Please, just drop the subject." And with that, Zelda goes back to her room.
"Ze....." Link thinks to himself, "I understand your confusion. I myself wonder about my feelings for you too. Are they even for you, or for the one that was left behind?" Meanwhile, Zelda sits one her bed, her mind racing over what just happened. "That story was never told," she says to herself, "but why..... Why dose it seem so familiar to me?"
End of chapter five.
