In Color & Design class at AIS we were assigned to do a traditional work (either using gouche or color pencils on a piece of bristol or cold press illustration board) that incorporated various different design elements such as tone, perspective, complementary colors, etc...
So I did this gouche painting as an experimentation for the project. Plus I just really REALLY wanted to do a Final Fantasy VI fanart =)
Anyways here's part of the description from my original upload over at DA:
"This took me a few days to finish, I've been working on it off and on. BTW Atma has 6 arms if you're wondering WTF (I just didn't draw his middle arm on the other side because I couldn't really think of a good way to fit it in the picture). FFVI fans will understand the scene most likely, Celes was really prominent in that part of the story so I just had her fighting Atma/Ultima all by her lonesome (too lazy to include 2 other characters and Shadow).
I hate the way the fire from his middle claw is all giant and poopy lookin'. Just imagine it's getting sucked up by Celes' runic blade or some shit. Also my Atma/Ultima doesn't look nearly as cool as the original, not even half as cool. See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seCkPTbqOO4&feature=related
This is an 11 x 14 gouche painting, too daymn big to fit in my scanner so I had J-chan take a picture of it for me. It looks so much better in real life then it does here."
