Fairy Boys #4 Nap Time

Another in the series of fairy boys drawings. Two little fairy boys taking a quiet rest, probably after a day of mischief.

The idea for this one came from a photo of some flower I saw while researching for my "Frog Princesses" commission painting. It had this enveloping quality to it that I thought would be perfect for this sort of image. However, since I lost the original photo, I had to completely 'wing' the design, with only the impression it had left with me the only reference (although I rarely use photo sources for much more than that anyway.)

I sketched it out months ago but the flower needed alot of work so I hadn't finished it. Instead of going more with a more line art design with this one I decided to put a more pencil-work polish to it like I'm used to doing on pieces meant to be pencil only, even though I intended this to be a digital painting base. It just made the flower come together easier than going with a line-art approach. Plus I got a little carried away.

It was nice doing some pencil-work again though. I think trying to up my work speed has put pressure on me that I hadn't realized until I let some of it go to put more into a preliminary piece like this.

Right now I don't have any more ideas in the works for the fairy boys theme, but there is one lurking around in my head that just hasn't been put to paper (or computer) yet. So we'll see it there'll be more. I'd like to start giving some of the ones I have the digital painting treatment first.
