Tainted Chapter Three:
She smiled at him, and went into the diner. It was cold, and dimly lit inside, the only light source coming from on shuddering florescent bulb over the bar. She glanced at Marco. "It's kind of scary and weird in here," she said in a whisper.
Giggling some he said, "Yes it's dark...and kinda creepy." Smiling he snuck back up behind her slowly and tickled her sides.
~~
It was nice and cool in the back of the restaurant he had decided to hole up in when everything had become dark. Andrew smiled to himself, drawing his knees to his chest. He could feel her, she was close. The mother. He shivered with excitement.
~~
Phe jumped and squealed. She turned around, face red with embarrassment. "Totally not fair." She said with a serious expression, before going further into the diner. "It's very empty in here. Do you think it'll be ok, if we made our own food?"
Smiling wide, Marco slipped his hands into his pocket and started walking towards the back of the diner, to check out the kitchen. "It's pretty much empty. so I really doubt anyone would care."
"Ok, then." Phe said. "Let's find something to eat."
"I'm not really hungry." Marco said waving his hand in the air. He didn't eat a lot as it was.
"Hopefully there is something worth cooking in here.I could go for something to drink though." Dry swallowing his heart medicine was something he had in mind, and it left his throat dry.
~~
Andrew blinked. She was here. The mother was here in this dingy little place. He stood, full of excitement. He took a step forward, and paused. There was something wrong. The mother... she was with someone who also had the "glow". He frowned. They hadn't told them about this. They just told him the mother would come when she was ready. He glared at nothing for a moment, before stepping out in to the open kitchen.
~~
"H-hello?" Some one from the shadows called in a very frightened voice. "Is some one there?"
Phe glanced at Marco. "There's some one in here." She bit her lip. "Should we go to them?"
Marco was near the counter when he heard the voice causing him to jump, scream and put his hand on his chest, his heart started to beat way too fast. Sudden scares weren't good.
"Oh ...my... god..."He said in between breaths. It wasn't something he had expected, to see another person in abandoned place like this.
"I know." he whispered to Phe. "H-hello?" he called out.
The boy, more of a man really, stepped in to sight and breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh good! I was beginning to think I was the only person left in town! What's happened here, do you know?" he asked with a slight frown on his face.
Phe shook her head. "No, it was like this when I came into town and has been ever since. Was it like this when you got here Marco?"
Marco shook his head. His eyes were planted on the boy who had just stepped out. Moving over to Phe, he slid her fingers between his and gripped her hand. Something seemed off. "It was empty when I arrived..."
He nodded slowly. "It's so weird. I came here during break from college to look up some old friends and the town was like this." He stroked his chin thoughtfully. What could this all possibly mean? He glanced at the two. "Have you seen anyone else besides each other and me?"
Andrew couldn't believe how calm he was acting. Inside his head he was jumping up-and-down out of joy. The Mother was right there in front of him, and all he had to do was get rid of the other one. He wanted to smile, but couldn't. He was sure it would give something away.
Marco nodded a little. "W...well there was a lady..." he answered, he looked down at the ground, his pale blue eyes staring at the dirty ground like he was trying to remember something that wasn't there.”She was at the church." There was a tinge of pain in his heart again, like he had, had at the church.
"Is there any food back there? She needs to eat." Marco said raising his head and looking at Andrew, trying to smile sweetly.
Andrew looked behind him, towards the kitchen, and then nodded. "Yeah, there's some food back there. But I am not sure if you want to eat it. A lot of it looks stale."
He made a sick face. Letting go oh Phe's hand he walked past Andrew to the kitchen to explore it. Perhaps some food there was still good. Anything would be better then nothing.
Phe followed Marco back into the kitchen, skirting around the strange boy. "Can all the food really be stale?" she asked Marco as they headed back towards where all the food would be stored. "It doesn't seem like it's been abandoned that long..."
Marco wasn't sure if it were all stale or not. He'd have to look at it to tell. Glancing back at Andrew he stepped into the kitchen and started going through the cabinets. "I don't think it's very possible but. Who knows, Phe." As he walked he brought his hand to his chest. Why weren’t his meds working?
And now what that woman had said was making him a little paranoid.
"Alright," she said. There were a bag of chips in a rack they passed by briefly. She glanced back at them and pulled it off. Checking them out, they seemed to be fine, their experation date a little ways off still. She ripped open the bag and popped a few in her mouth. "These seem fine," she said to Marco swallowing. "I have a sandwich in my bag I've been trying not to eat, I'm sure, if we find our selves something to drink I'll be fine. What do you think?"
Marco saw the bag of chips and smiled glad Phe found something to eat, at least it wasn't stale, or rotten meat for that matter.
"Something to drink would be amazing." Marco said with a giggle. "My throat is still so dry..."
She smiled. "I would say let's see if they have a soda machine, but the carbonated water might be gone. We could check in the back, they might have a tap, or something."
"Water would be fine, I'm sure they have a sink back here." He laughed. He didn't have preferences what he drank as long as it was fluid and wouldn't make him sick. Searching for the focet he yelled to the guy. "What is your name?" He asked. "This is Opehlia..." He tried to remember Phe's last name but for some reason it was a blank. "I'm Marco De'Winter" Laughing he shook his head. "Ah...." he corrected himself.”Sorry Dyakov...."
"I'm Andrew, Andrew Sullivan. It's nice to meet you Marco, Ophelia." he said, walking around to the other side of the bar to sit. "What brought you two to Silent Hill? I mean, it's definitely not much now, but before our town was just a tourist attraction." (Silent Hill comment: WTF? WALTER HAD KIDS?! -plugs in a nightlight-)
"Sullivan?" He thought about it and then a twisted smile curved his lips. "No relation to the mass murderer and lunatic Walter Sullivan are you?" Giggling some Marco shook his head. “I’m sorry really. That was in bad taste." But he couldn't help it, everyone knew that name some how. “There’s nothing wrong with a lunatic I mean, my parents were considered that." His face turned bright red and he turned away even from Phe. He wasn't sure but that was a rumor. Taking a deep breath Marco sighed. "Uh....well....I'm a photographer." He said looking at Phe. Of course he wasn't going to tell right away his reason. Not until he was sure.
Phe looked at him, confused. Had he just called this random person a lunatic, and then his parents... She frowned a little. "You're a photographer, that's really cool Marco! I didn't know that!"
Marco was still bright red, knowing he just said something remotely defensive.
"Yeah I'm a freelance photographer." He reached into his pocket and took out his digital camera and turned it on handing it to Phe.
"No, I am not related to Walter. However, I did grow up in the same orphanage as him, if that helps any." He chuckled a little. "No, my actual family name was Sullivan. And that's pretty cool, that you're a photographer, did you come here on assignment?"
He couldn't help but crack up laughing. He wasn't sure why he found it to be funny but it was. "I'm not sure that helps much."
Leaning over and clicking the arrow keys on the camera he went through his most recent pictures, Flowers, cemetery angels, and churches. It seemed to be a theme. Angels mostly Angels reaching for the sky or crying and the churches were large cathedrals. "Uh, yeah you could say that. Seeking out some things of interest."
Phe glanced through the photos, noticing the amount of photos of those creepy cemetery angels. "Wow Marco, you sure like angels, don't you?" she asked, as he flipped through more of the pictures. "Why do you need so many photographs of those?"
Marco blushed some. Yes, he took a lot of pictures of angels. But his photography was very good.
"I don't know. I just really love angels."
She nodded and giggled some. "I can see that." she said with a smile.
"Hey!" Andrew called from where he was sitting. "Are you guys alright back there?"
He wanted the Mother to come back. To understand who he was and how important he was to her. He glared back into the shadows that the two had disappeared into. Why wouldn't they hurry up? He wanted to hurry and get rid of the useless one.
"Uh...Yeah!" Marco shouted at Andrew. "I was showing Phe something on my camera." He turned and looked at Phe, as he started searching for a cup so he could drink some water. "You don't like angels? Or cemetery angels at least?" he asked, loud enough for Andrew to hear. "I was always told, when I was in foster care that it's bad to stand under an angel statue that's looking down. They only look down on the dead." Grinning he gave a wink.
"Nah, not really." she said. "My mother's grave had one of those, but it always scared me." Phe dug through her bag, pulling out what seemed to be a very, very smashed roast beef sandwich. "I'm gonna go sit at the bar and wait for you, okay?"
"They used to scare me." He said smiling some. Nodding he found a cup in a cabinet and filled it with water. "Alright... I’ll be over there in a minute."
He sighed, he needed a moment. He waited until Phe had walked off and he reached into his pocket taking out his picture wallet and flipping it open.
Phe sat down next to the strange boy at the bar who flashed her a dirty look. She tried to ignore it, blushing slightly and staring down at her sandwich. This man was strange, and she was not yet sure what to think of him.
He sat there silently taking small sips of water, and flipping through the pictures in his wallet, taking a small glance over them. Shaking his head he called to the two. "Need anything before I come out of the kitchen!?"
Phe kept shifting glances back over to the boy next to her who continued to glare. "No, I'm good. Got my chips and sandwich." She laughed nervously.
Andrew felt angry. Why was the Mother taking so long? How could she just leave him here with this... this idiot girl? He kept glaring at her, hoping she'd leave, but she just sat there. He felt like punching her in the head a little. "Nope. I'm fine. I didn't see anything worth getting when I was back there."
"Okay." Grabbing his cup of water, and slipping his wallet back into his pocket. Marco walked back into the main part of the restraunt, trying to smile. "Well Phe, after you eat. Will you be ready to find our exit?"
He took a seat next to Phe and laid his head on her shoulder. "That smashed sandwich looks awfully delicious." He made a face. Peeking over at Andrew, wondering what was up with him.
She nodded. "Yeah. I don't care where we go after this as long as it's not here and not home." Phe smiled and held her sandwich up to him. "Wanna bite?"
Andrew listened into the conversation. The Mother wanted to leave? Silent Hill? He couldn't believe it. "I know a way out," he said quickly.
Marco stuck his nose up playfully and shook his head. "Mm... no thank you. I'm not hungry." He took another sip of his water. "I'll take you with me, as a snack to go." he said, smiling when the girl blushed. He moved his head and looked over at Andrew. "Really?" He knew he could trust Phe at this point but after that woman had said , how was he so sure he could trust this other stranger?
"I do." He said, serious. "I grew up here. I've been through the whole town and it seems that all the streets have, ah, disappeared, for the lack of a better word, so the only way left would be the forest. I could get us out and we could go our separate ways, what do you think?" He looked from one to the other.
Phe glanced at Marco, unsure. "He says he grew up here..." she said softly to him, so the man wouldn't hear.”Maybe... Maybe we should believe him?"
Marco stared at Andrew. The fact that he had grown up in this town made him weary. And going through the woods...
Moving his head he leaned back close to Phe and whispered. "Remember that lady at the church? She said not all are what they seem. I don't think I can do it and not regret my judgment."
Phe nodded. "Alright." she whispered back. "I trust you Marco."
Andrew stood up, sliding his hands in his pockets. He would get the Mother, whether she came willingly or not. Now that was the real thought wasn't it? He nodded to the two still sitting there at the bar. "Well, I need to be heading off." And with that he slipped out of the cafe, walking briskly away.
He glanced at Phe, fighting himself for a moment. Finally Marco stood and followed the man, not wanting to leave Phe alone, but needing to. "Wait," he called. Andrew stopped and looked over his shoulder at him. "Do you know where the graveyard is?"
"Yeah, I know where it is, it's close to the forest. Why do you need to find a plot?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "Are you looking for some one?"
There was the mention of the forest again. Marco nodded some. "Don't think me weird please but… uhm there's this uhm... family, I've been doing research on. I wanted to take some pictures of the grave site..."
"I see. Well, do you need directions or something? Because you already turned me down you know."
Sighing he shook his head. "If you want to give me directions fine, I'll be honest with you, someone earlier just... they told me something and it has me scared so... understand?"
Andrew smirked. "Alright. And what about that girl in there? She coming too?"
Marco coughed a little, bringing his hand up to the knot of his tie, it was a comfort thing when his chest hurt to have his hand there but he played it off by fiddling with necklaces or his tie.” Phe? Yes. I’m watching over her."
"She's a rather cute little thing isn't she?" Andrew looked over Marco's shoulder at the girl who was watching timidly for her stool. "She's almost like a puppy, she's so damn cute, isn't she?"
"Well... uh..." Marco blushed and laughed some turning to look back at Phe. She was very cute." Yes, she's adorable... wait why did you say she's like a puppy?" He asked turning to look back at Andrew.
"She'd follow you any where. Poor thing, so lost and alone." he smirked. "You never know when someone's going to swing on by and snatch her up."
Marco raised a brow. "She doesn't follow me everywhere..." He said crossing his arms, and then he narrowed his eyes defensively. "Excuse me?"
Andrew just smiled. "Well, I do have to be going. Places to go, people to see. I am very, very busy." he said, with a wink. "Bye!" And he walked away, with a short wave to Marco.
Phe stepped out of the diner, looking worried and confused. "What's wrong, Marco? Did that man leave?"
Marco just stared at him walk away. For a moment he seemed a little lost, like he completely zoned out for a minute but hearing Phe's voice he shook his head and turned smiling to her.
"Yeah, but it's alright. Are you ready to go?"
Phe nodded. "Yeah, I am. My sandwich was pretty good, though it was smashed to shit." She smiled a bit. "So where to?"
Crossing his arms he looked around the area not noticing anyone else. His mind seemed to be on the stranger who just left more then where they were going next but he smiled and started walking, putting his hands in his pockets. "Cemetery."
Phe frowned. "Why the cemetery? What if it gets all creepy while we're there?"
"Then we'll run." He called back to her. "I won't let you get hurt."
She smiled to herself, feeling warmth inside her. She followed him, catching up to him quickly. "So... Why do we need to go to the cemetery? What are you looking for exactly?"
Marco smiled to himself. It was hard for him to seem close to anyone and he was growing fond of this girl. "Well" He said silently. “I heard a rumor about a grave and I want to check it out."
Phe grabbed Marco's hand and gripped it tightly. "Oh." She smiled a bit. "Alright. I-" she paused, hoping it was the right thing to say. "I hope it's what you're looking for Marco."
Marco turned to glance over at Phe, Gripping her hand tightly. "I hope so too. I'll make it quick, so we can get out of here."
