Introspection -- Gaara

Okay.

I did this picture last night, when I realized that I hadn't done a Gaara picture in a long time. Forever. And the idea of doing something that wasn't fashionably related and instead rather substantial that pertained to Gaara was appealing, so...

His pose was the easiest part of the drawing. I LOVE his hands and fingers--I am especially proud of them. His... thing, that holds his calabash--I wasn't sure how to draw it considering how it lays against his body, but I tried my best and that's what I came up with. SURPRISE!

As you can see, my shading style is changing somewhat. It's not trapped in lines--it's just uninhibited, linear fun. I debated whether or not I should have drawn Gaara's iris', but I waged against the notion, because no matter where I placed them, it was awkward to look at--and the blank eyes look more artistic and, in a way, more expressive. Iris's would have taken more focused attention away from the rest of the picture, I think.

When I finsihed drawing Gaara, I was digusted by all the WHITE that was around him, and I didn't feel like drawing a real background, so instead I compensated by filling the void with text that was relevant to him. You may even read things there that aren't important, like "Gourd is missing", and I wrote that immediately after I realized that yes, I HAD forgotten that. At first I was like "Aaah, SHIT, that doesn't make sense!" And then I remembered that chapter title picture when Kishimoto drew Gaara leaned up against a building with his calabash hung up in stuff (I don't remember what). SO IT'S JUST NOT ON HIM RIGHT NOW. WEEE. I HAVE AN EXCUSE FOR MY MISTAKE!

Have fun reading the messages. Some of them are really spaced out across the page. Like "A Demon Who Loves Only Himself" and "So cruel to me, Yashamaru".

I'm glad that I was able to produce something so personal about Gaara--I really love him.
