This is one of those ideas that hit me rather randomly and turned out almost precisely the way I wanted.
Well. Apart from the fact that the scanner absolutely *murdered* the colors. As usual. It's not quite so gray--the water really has a beautiful blue-green color that was seriously grayed out (at least on my monitors).
If I didn't have six people hovering over me waiting for the computer, I would have tried to adjust the colors before uploading but I probably won't get the computer again for a week so I thought I'd go ahead and put it up now. So I'll just try to put a more accurate version up sometime soon.
On another note, the recent commission of a pink mermaid, which turned out obscenely monochromatic, sparked new interest in an old idea I had to do a series of monochromatic-ish paintings....so I suppose this might be considered the first of that series. Hopefully I'll finish it (the series that is).
P.S. No, I don't know why that pearl is floating. But I do know that koi don't live in the sea. These are mutant salt water koi...

i enjoyed this piece and the featured one! i new instantly that it was a tradtionally painted piece. it pays, becasue this is fantastic. the koi make a nice contrast to the icy whites and cool blues! what a fantastic use of textures and also some traditional painting styles. the waves almost have a style of ukiyo-e japanese paintings. there is actually a famous picture of a wave crashing that has that same style detail in it.
excellent job and well deserving of praise :)
