The final version of Fade to Black
I took care of a few more details that were irking me in the last revision, such as a patch of black stars to the right of Haruhi (which is now filled in), and also expanded the smudging just a bit more to add a bit more color to the middle of the piece. I may still work on this one, but I won't make it into a new piece, I'll just swap out the images as needed.
I've been messing around with the smudge tool a lot more lately since I learned a lot more about ways I can make it work, and I decided to use this vector of Haruhi in a wallpaper experiment. I thought it turned out looking cool and out of the ordinary, so I thought I'd submit it and see what everyone else thinks. I've done experiments like this in the past, but usually they flopped due to bad quality of the scans, but this vector is beautifully done, so I don't think that should be a problem this time around.

It looks like you just put a Haruhi render on top of a brown and black gradiant-made background, then applied the image and smudged the background and part of Haruhi's arm and hair...with another smudged background layer underneath...it looks good, but it's left side is a bit plain.
