Bush Words is a fantastic example of portraiture that takes the next step beyond just technical skill, into the realm of conceptual significance.
Seth Desmoen here displays great painting skills with rich color and attention to detail, and then imbues a simple portrait with subtle political commentary by creating the entire piece out of words...words not chosen by the artist, himself, but volunteered by a range of others, giving it the strength of numbers. In a smart move, "Dubya" Bush isn't portrayed as a caricature, and all opinions are left in the marks that make up the piece at an infinitesimal level...a sweet, subtle move that inspires dialogue and discussion, rather than mere argument. A fine example of technical rendering skill married with conceptual cunning.
