Shattered Melody -Chapter 1: Are You Happy Now?-
“I love you with all my heart! I’ll even help you with your revenge! I don’t know what I could do, but I’ll try my best to do anything! If you go-I’ll scream out loud!”
Now, don’t just walk away
Pretending everything’s ok
And you don’t care about me
And I know there’s just no use
When all your lies become your truths and I don’t care... yeah, yeah, yeah
The pink haired Kunoichi laid on her bed, her arms and legs stretched out, as her bright pink hair sprawled across the jade comforter. The moon flooded into the room silently and covered the tips of her feet. Slowly opening her eyes she stared at the ceiling, Its been five years, Naruto managed to reason with Tsunade-sama, so now we’re having a meeting tomorrow, on whether or not Sasuke-kun should be put on probation, death, or neither and just become a regular ninja once again. I already know Naruto and Kakashi-sensei are pointing out for him to become a regular ninja once more. Seeing as Sasuke-kun already talked to them both. A sigh passed her lips as she turned onto her side staring at the picture frame with a small photo of team seven when they were younger. As much as I hate to admit it, I’m not sure if I want him to just start off as a regular ninja again, he’s caused everyone so much pain. Almost killed Naruto a few times in the process too! A silent tear slid down her pale cheek as her eyes closed and she drifted into a dreamless slumber.
“Sakura-chan! Are you ready to go to Sasuke-teme’s trial!?”
Sakura walked down the stairs wearing her normal outfit, black shorts, a tan over skirt with slits to the waist band, and her sleeveless red shirt with her families symbol on the back. Black boots to her knees. Smiling at her hyper former teammate, she nodded,
“Hai.”
With that, the two both headed toward the Hokage tower where Sasuke’s trial would be held.
“You’re going to vote for Sasuke-teme to become a regular ninja right?! That way we can return to the normal team seven again!”
Sakura immediately looked down before placing a smile on her face and nodding,
“Yeah, of course.”
She whispered lightly the entire rest of the walk there had gone in silence. Would her decision make everyone happy? Or make everyone hate her? By the time they arrived Kakashi was standing up in a large room, while the Hokage and her assistant sat behind a desk listening to his reason as he explained about how he wanted Sasuke to become an Anbu.
Taking her seat she listened to his words carefully, her head bowed toward the ground, occasionally her jade eyes would wander toward the raven haired male who looked smug at all the compliments his former teacher was giving him.
“Sasuke has proven loyal by ridding of two S class nin, returning to Konoha and will most likely put all his effort on whatever mission is thrown at him.”
Taking a bow he retreated and took Naruto’s place as the blond got up and began to present why Sasuke should also be an Anbu. After about five short minutes Naruto retreated from the stand happily, a grin plastered to his slightly tanned face as he walked toward Sakura who stood up slowly. Walking over to the stand she stood behind it, lacing her hands together as her head was bowed in either a sense of respect for the Hokage, or out of nervousness to look the fifth Hokage in the eye.
“Sakura.”
Her jade eyes immediately trailed to the blond haired woman who smiled at her, a reassuring smile,
“I don’t mean to pressure you, but whether or not it’s a two out of three case, your vote counts as the main one, if you disagree with something we’ll follow it. Your intelligence and selflessness and dedication to protecting the people of Konoha is suitable for this position, it would have gone to Kakashi, but I chose you, please present your choice. Take your time and think wisely.”
The female nodded slowly, more pressure burning down her shoulders as they slumped a tiny bit, her eyes trailed to the raven haired male, who still looked smug about this, then to her blond haired friend and former teacher.
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you’re happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased,
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
“I say,” She paused for a moment her eyes kept going to either side of the room where both her former team were set. Her eyes found its way to the smug looking male once more, he looked as if he had this thing in the bag. Like everything was going according to his genius plan, like all the people he hurt didn’t matter now, everything would be forgiven after this.
“That Sasuke is placed under probation for three years, jutsu’s and any type of jutsu prohibited. Missions are forbidden until the third year where he will travel in groups to make sure he goes according to the discussed plan and doesn’t try to leave again. Until then I suggest he stay in Konoha as a normal citizen any type of ninja use, chakara, jutsu or anything will be punishable.”
Her hands gripped onto each other, she heard the soft plop of the orange book her former sensei was reading as it hit the tile flooring. The female Hokage just looked intrigued by her decision, and decided to press further to make it more understandable for the others.
“And why is this?”
Her hands folded neatly on the table in front of her as her hazel eyes stared at the pink haired female.
“My reason for this is, Uchiha Sasuke, has killed many innocents of this village, fled from the village and became an S class criminal, by siding with a village who is not on a peace treaty with Konoha. Also almost killed one of our two strongest ninja’s in the village without hesitation and continued to commit these crimes. This puts our entire village under risk if he were to become a regular ninja once more, innocents will be terrified for the sake of their children and their safety at the thought of a former resident who had become a criminal-a dangerous one at that- were to be freely roaming in and out of Konoha. These three years without jutsu’s or any ninja use will help villagers slowly begin to accept them and feel more secure that he cannot use any form a ninja use. And with the constant Anbu checking up on him 24/7 it will help our villagers become more aware of the fact that we are regarding their safety before anything else. Unlike if we were to allow him to become a ninja right away as if his deeds had gone unseen, they would become weary of whether or not the Hokage and their people are really here for their safety or is the village really just aiming for power.”
Sakura bit her lower lip, her eyes on the ground for a moment before they slowly made their way to a furious raven haired male, and two shocked males from her choice. Once more her eyes looked back onto the Hokage who smiled happily at her decision,
“Agreeable, and seeing as you are looking out for the village instead of just your selfish desire to have your old team put back together, your statement has been accepted. Uchiha Sasuke, you will be put under probation for three years, any kind of ninja use is prohibited until the third year. Even then, you will still have Anbu checking up on you constantly to make sure you are not doing anything dangerous as well as forbidden. Also, you are not to take one step out of Konoha unless I say otherwise, understood?”
She stated looking over a few papers before looking back up at the raven haired male, who was dumbfounded, though grunted and just looked away, in a furious manner. Sakura looked at the ground, as it she had done something horribly wrong, and stayed quiet.
“You’re all excused now.”
Sakura quickly darted out of the room, to avoid any questioning by her former teammates. Though was no match as her former sensei and blond haired teammate managed to corner her.
“Sakura-chan! Why did you say that! Now we can’t be team seven again!”
He whined out, looking hurt,
“Didn’t you want that Sakura-chan?!”
You took all there was to take,
And left me with an empty plate
And you don’t care about it, yeah.
And I am givin' up this game
I’m leaving you with all the blame cause I don’t care, yeah, yeah yeah,
Sakura listened to her former teammate as he whined out, why she had said things like that, to make their team incomplete.
“No!”
She barked out, her pink bangs shadowing her eyes as she balled her hands into fists tightly.
“You never asked me what I wanted! Neither of you did! And you didn’t care about Konoha either! You just cared about getting team seven back together! Well it’s a little late for that isn’t it!? Team seven split up years ago, no matter what anyone said, you and Sasuke both left me! I gave up on hopes that team seven would ever come back together! And even if we did have the title ‘Team seven’ again it wouldn’t change crap! Everything would be the same even if we weren’t on a team! Sasuke would hate my guts, and be more distant then ever! And you all know that so don’t try and play a fool!”
She yelled looking up at them, tears streaking down her face,
“Team seven was left in the past! Forget about it now! We have no chance of ever bringing the old times back up!”
Finally shutting up and rubbing her eyes furiously as the tears were forced to stop. In a white puff of smoke, she was gone and in front of her house, hiccuping slightly. Opening her door she walked in quietly, slamming the door shut behind her before breaking down fully and kneeling down as she began to sob.
Naruto stood there, his mouth widened in shock though closed as he looked sadly to the ground, before looking up at his former sensei who simply sighed rubbing the back of his head while looking toward the sky, the other hand occupied holding the little orange book in his hand, though he began to speak after a moment of trying to figure out what to say.
“We had become selfishly thought up in team seven again, that we thought about the meaning of being a ninja, to protect those in this village before anything else. Sakura was the only one who upheld that rule, even if it meant her friendship..”
He whispered sighing slightly before beginning to walk away. Naruto looked down at the ground, his sapphire blue eyes brimming with tears as he balled his hands into fists.
“Kakashi-sensei, but you said those who left their teammates were worse then trash?”
Kakashi hummed softly, staring out into the distance before glancing at Naruto.
“I think that’s more of a question for Sasuke..”
After a moment, he turned his head and began to walk away, he hated to admit it, but Sakura was right. Nothing could be like the past anymore, no matter how much they wished it could be. He knew most of all, that Sakura did the right thing, and did it for the sake of Konoha, and knew for a fact also, that she wanted team seven back to the old times, more then anyone could imagine.
Could you look me in the eye?
And tell me that you’re happy now, oohh oohhh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased,
Are you happy now? Ohhh, ohhhh
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now? yeah, yeah, yeah.
The raven haired male sat there, his eyes a bit shocked before then went to their normal expression, as he listened to his former teammate go against him. Looking away furiously as the Hokage accept Sakura’s reasoning. He would have thought, she, of all people would have been behind him one hundred percent. Did she stop caring for him? He doubted it, though he began to question it, she said five years ago she loved him and that would do anything to make him happy. Clearly she didn’t mean that otherwise she would have allowed him to become a regular ninja once more. Though maybe she didn’t love him, maybe she took all those words back?
He could care less now, she had disappointed him, and he wasn’t surprised. She had disappointed him in the past too. Watching her back, his eyes narrowed into a glare as if he was burning a hole through her back, after the Hokage excused everyone, he watched as she darted out of the room with little hesitation. His former teacher and teammate following after her quickly, most likely questioning why she had said those things.
About to just leave the room in a puff of smoke, but glared as the Hokage coughed and stated his name in a disciplining tone. Grunting, he shoved his hands into his pockets and stalked off after everyone, though to his disappointment he had missed the whole argument, watching as his former female teammate ran passed him tears running down her face. A small smirk played on his lips as he was quite happy she cried, thinking she deserved it for turning against him. Though this also proved his next theory he had forming in his head, she hadn’t changed much. Still being the cry baby he once knew, and he probably knew everything about her just by her expression. She may have stopped loving him, but he could most likely still read her emotions and what she was thinking as if she was an open book. Keeping his hands shoved into his pockets as his feet dragged along the cement surface, as he began to walk away. The cold breeze that lingered in the air slowly began to fade as spring rounded the corner.
She had apologized to him quite often, and even offered to get something to eat. Though each time, he would continue to walk as if he didn’t acknowledge her existence at all, not even sparing her a glance to let her know she was heard. That was his plan, to make her feel like she was invisible to him, though he hadn’t expected her to just, suddenly stop asking. What irked him even more, was the fact she was hanging out with her friends and even went out to lunch with Naruto and Kakashi. Yet hadn’t invited him, he hadn’t expected this behavior to come from her, and let alone just stop asking him all together. His expectations weren’t met, which were her to continue asking, continuing to get ignored, and finally Naruto would step in and say something.
Though Naruto had been away on a mission from the Hokage, so Sakura had no one to stop her from asking, she had stopped on her own. When Naruto returned, he had watched from a safe distance, Sakura lunging over to Naruto and hugging him. Something else he didn’t expect her to do, then ask him if he wanted ramen. Maybe she had changed more then he expected her too, though refused to give her any credit for moving on. If she did at that, grunting at his own foolish thoughts and why it annoyed him slightly that she was beginning to act as if he wasn’t there anymore.
He walked by Ichiraku’s ramen stand, and his eyes narrowed at the sight of his former team sitting together and eating. His former sensei was sitting there reading his book, his bowl of empty ramen in front of him, while his two former teammates whispered to each other and would occasionally point to the male who was getting curious at why they were pointing to him, and snickering a few times. Though before he could ask, the two had returned to their normal positions, as Naruto gulfed down another bowl of ramen, and Sakura watched with a mix of disgust and amazement that he didn’t choke. Turning his head away, and sticking his nose into the cool refreshing air, he continued on his way, ignoring them and their childish ways.
Sakura sat down on a stool at Ichiraku’s ramen stand and was leaning over to Naruto who hunched down slightly, while whispering back.
“I bet he has yellow teeth, that’s why he hides his mouth.”
She whispered into the male’s ear, who shuddered in disgust at the thought of his sensei having yellow teeth, before he soon made a suggestion about what he thought was under their sensei’s mask. Her jade eyes traveled to their sensei who was looking at the two of them from the corner of his eye, his one visible eye staring right at them, while his eyebrow was raised in a curious manner.
Though her stomach twisted as she looked over, seeing Uchiha Sasuke, as he walked away, immediately she stopped talking and so did Naruto. Pretending to be amused at the fact Naruto could easily scarf down food without choking, though she wasn’t amazed anymore, nor that much amused. Having five years to watch this, it became normal quick, looking over and at her bowl of food with her head bowed down.
“I’m not sure if I did the right thing, Sasuke obviously doesn’t look happy.” She whispered, not even bothering to spare a look at her former teammate and sensei who looked over at her. Naruto was the first to say something, as he set his bowl down and placed his hand on her shoulder.
“Even if Sasuke-teme wasn’t on probation, I doubt he’d still be happy, I mean he completed a life long goal at an early age, so is pretty much left wandering as of now. I can tell he’s more frustrated at the fact he has nothing to focus on anymore. Seeing as training has been taking away from him, and has nothing to improve with reasoning anymore. He’s probably just mad because he’s bored.”
Even though Naruto tried his best to comfort her, she still wasn’t satisfied, throwing money on the counter to pay for all of them she excused herself and began to walk around the village, her eyes wandered from the bright white buildings to the bright blooming green tree’s that loomed over her as she walked. Her hands folded neatly behind her back, looking toward the sky before her eyes trailed back down to her feet.
Do you really have everything you want?
You can't ever give somethin' you ain't gotYou can’t run away from yourself
Looking for some type of reassurance, she began to head a certain direction, before entering a small flower shop.
“Ino?”
She called out leaning against the counter slightly, watching as a blond haired female’s head poked out from the door to the back room.
“Oh hey! I’ll be right out!”
With that, she disappeared once more, Sakura tapped her hands on the counter while waiting quietly, occasionally she would look around at the flowers and if she saw one that she had forgotten its scent, she would go over and take in its beautiful aroma, after a few moments the blond came back out and sat on the counter, looking over at the pink haired girl as she was knelt down playing with a fallen petal on the floor.
“What’s buggin’ you?”
She asked raising an eyebrow, before crossing one leg over the other, propping her elbow onto her knee and placing her head in the palm of her hand. Blond hair fell into her right eye covering it completely. As her other blue eye watched her friend sigh before standing up.
“I guess I’m regretting my decision of putting Sasuke on probation, I’m not sure if it really was the smartest thing to do.”
The blond rolled her one visible eye,
“Sakura, it’s a wee bit to late to be thinking about that. You made your decision which happened to be a responsible one. I’ve had a few people come in here talking stating they were happy that you placed Sasuke on probation, because they were worried about their safety. I even saw one kid come in and buy a rose for you, in a thanks for looking out for him and everyone else, though I doubt he gave it to you het, he seemed really shy, and blushed when he mentioned it was for you.”
Her laugh filled the silent room as Sakura stared at the ground, smiling a tiny bit,
“Well I’m glad they don’t regret my decision.” Folding her hands together in front of her before she plopped onto the ground, “The a part of me still, just seems to regret it, maybe it’s because I was looking forward to having Sasuke back on a team. Though the more reasonable responsible part of me, knew that the village came first, so I blurted that out.”
Could you look me in the eye?
and tell me that you're happy now, yeah, yeah
come on, tell it to my face or have I been replaced,
are you happy now? Ohhh, ohhhh
are you happy now?
“You think to much forehead girl, you did what was right, and sooner or later he’ll have to get over his angst problem and realize your not his twelve your old fan girl that he once knew. You’re a proud Kunoichi, and hopefully he’ll come to respect that.”
Sakura nodded in response before standing up,
“I’ve got to go meet Tsunade-sama at the hospital, I promised I’d come in and help her today.”
Hugging her friend for a moment before heading toward the door.
“Thanks Ino-pig.”
She stated waving her hand slightly before running off and toward the hospital. Ino waved until she was out and into the distance before sighing and shaking her head slightly. Hopping off the desk she headed into the back room to continue watering the flowers. Slowly Sakura managed to stop herself as she stared across the street, at Sasuke who continued to walk, letting out a sigh she shook her head, hopefully Ino was right, and he would see that she was a proud Kunoichi, and that her decision was important and would not be changed. Picking up her pace she ran passed him and continued on her way to the hospital.
Would you look me in the eye?
Could you look me in the eye?
I’ve had all that I can take
I'm not about to break
Cause I’m happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Are you happy now?

Grape juice Says:
Well im surprised! I don't really care much about Naruto but I do appreciate how you kept true to all their personalities. I especially loved how you gave that section of Sasuke...how he thought about Sakura and all that jazz..
very well written.
