Okay, maybe not exactly historically accurate in terms of shape and size, but well, that might change because I'm just looking to getting things out of my head for now. Other than that, it's mostly the handguard that bothers me.
This the standard, secondary weapon of the Lancer Kaistia of the Kaistien Lelnia (College of Zeal). Those below this rank have less decorated weapons, as they are mass-produced but no less effective. The idea of a lighter, penetration weapon accompanying the primary arm of the Lancer - the six foot double edged lance - developed during the expansion of Imperial Verzilis reign, where technology became a focused factor, leading to their victories over more primitive equipment of the opposing Asphzein nations. The Kaistien follows this tradition, and albeit the Schweizersabel is of foreign design, its effectivity in the right hands quells any complaint borne from the use of Northern technology.
The blade itself is single-edged, but this serves the purpose of harassment rather than employing proper slashing use, a prelude to the main thrusting techniques. As it is seen at the tip of the Schweizersabel a secondary blade has been inserted into the main outer jacket of steel - this insertion runs down only a few inches down the blade, as the curved tip of hardened martensite. The insertion is separated from the main inner core, of softer steel to provide resilience. The main core runs down to the end of the blade.
The sheath is internally grooved to accustom to the spiralling decorations of the sword itself. This is done so to lock the sheath into firmly into place, the weapon being deposited into the Lancer's belt at the side or back. However drawing the sword is relatively simple, as the sheath utilizes simple mechanics - by clamping down on the circular ring, this relaxes the grooves(sheets of thin interspersed metal held up by small rods which are controlled by the ring) and the sword becomes free. This being, the sword must be sheathed with the tip pointing upwards, or the sheath will not become locked with the sword.

It is pretty and very well-thought-out. Reading all of that, I was impressed. I didn't know you were familiar with weapons. I look forward to seeing it used. ^^
