African Grey Crowned Crane, Double Crested Cormorant and a Pied Avocet.
Acrylic and airbrush 9"x17"

A Poster (or magazine cover) design for my Natural History studio class.
Finally finished though I know I could keep tweaking and fiddling with it for eternity I think it's time to call it done.
I had a lot of help on both the acrylics and airbrushing from my lecturer.Its a shame the screen can't be angled to show the way the light reflects off the glossy glaze that delineates the cormorants feathers.
I haven't played much with acrylics but certainly intend to do more in future

Im always so chuffed when my work is such that people want to pass it on.
I have been meaning to rework this to stop the birds looking so sullen but if people like it so =

"I came across this painting by melanippos while browsing through the acrylic work and it took my breath away. The detail is amazing, I love how they arranged the birds, and the color they chose for the background really made the feathers of the birds stand out and almost gave it a glow and a softness to it."

I had a dream once, where a bird that look like a mix of the first two turned into apollo, and he flew away. It was weird because the next day my art block that I had was gone o.o

As has been said many a time before, this is really amazing! I love how you captured the three birds, with the slightly silly look of the avocet to the very elegant crane towering above. Also yay! Double crested cormorants are so adorable, and I really love how you painted this one's subtle feather sheen (a lot of paintings I've seen overdone, because not many people realize that they have no oil glands. But yours is so lovely!). Definitely a lovely picture.

they have crested cranes running allllllll over the animal adventure or whatever it is...part of disney world.

ever since I stayed at the lodge at that part of disney world, they've been one of my fav birds. x3
