Welcome to Dream Land :Ch 3:

[WTDL : Chapter 3]

It was near dark when we came upon her home. The temperature had dropped severely as it got darker. Her house was a small cottage and the windows were emanating a dim yellow light. Most likely candles, I thought. She walked in ahead of me and I hesitated before entering. I was looking down when I entered. I took my shoes of by the STAY OUT mat that rested in front of the door. As I looked up six kids were staring at me. At least they all looked like kids.

“Uh… Hello.” I stated. One of the boys, a round red-faced fellow, growled and looked to the girl that brought me here.

“Iria, iller quit see bochu voden quist!” He scowled at her.

“So your name is Iria…” I stated, realizing I hadn’t gotten her name yet.

She looked at me and frowned. “Sorry… I forgot to introduce myself…” She growled back to the man that had yelled at her. “Excuse him, that’s my husband Zin.” She looked to the other 5 people. 2 girls and 3 boys. She pointed to her children and spoke their names. “This is Carla,” the petite girl, “That is Johnen,” The baby boy, “Dimix,” the tall girl, “Iu,” the small boy, “and Matthew, who you will be sharing clothes and room with.” Matthew was about my size, the tallest in the family. He nodded a hello and walked quietly back to his room. I frowned.

“I’m Arai… It’s a pleasure to meet you all… but you see… I’m looking for a friend of mine…” They all looked at me like I had three heads.

Iria frowned at me. “They don’t understand you, I’m the only one who knows your language in this family, Matthew knows a little. Now… what does this friend look like?”

I paused. “Well… She has blonde hair like me, but much longer, about down to her mid-back. She has blue eyes like mine as well. And she’s very kind and young. About a year younger than I.”

Iria thought for a moment. “Sorry… I cannot recall anyone with that description. She obviously hasn’t been captured so you’re in a bit of luck. Although… this land is HUGE and hard to take travel upon.” She put her hand to her mouth and bit the tip of her thumb. “I’m not sure if you’ll ever find her. For now… you should get some rest, we wake up early, just to let you know. Have a good night… Arai.”

I put my hand behind my head and scratched at it while taking a deep sigh. “Thanks. Good night.” I walked into the room I saw Matthew walk into.

“There’s a spare bed over there… your clothes are on it.” Matthew took a long look at the empty bed and closed he eyes. He turned away and slid under the blankets of his own bed.

“Uh… thanks…Good night.” I set the clothes on the nightstand and I slid under the covers as well. Wow… I’m really tired, I thought to myself. My whole body ached and lying down felt so great. I quickly dozed off.

I awoke to a bright light in my face. Sunlight. I squinted my eyes as Matthew stood at the window. He had obviously tied up the curtains to let the light in. I groaned and sat up. “What time is it…?”

“6:30 a.m.” He looked at me then walked out the door, shutting it behind him.

I sighed, rubbed my eyes and got up. I threw on the change of clothes I was given and I walked out. Everyone was sitting at the table waiting for me. The watched me walk to my chair and sit down. “Sorry…” I felt as if everyone was waiting on me… and they were.

“We may eat now. Enjoy your breakfast everyone.” Iria said, then again in her own language.

Everyone ate at her command. Breakfast was delicious… yu meat… whatever that was, and eggs. After breakfast everyone was put to chores… except me.

I looked to Iria. “I can work as well, if you need.”

Iria scowled at me. “You’re a guest. Here.” She shoved a small pouch into my hands as well as a cloak. “Go buy what you need. Keep the cloak on so no one will see you and hurry back. Before noon, please.” She turned, picked up the baby, and made her way to the base of the stairs. “Please be careful. Don’t be reckless.” She walked up the stairs.

As I walked outside I was hit by the sweltering heat. I put my hood up and the cloak. It actually served a dual purpose. Not only did I keep me hidden, it actually kept me cool as well.

I made my way north farther into town. As I reached town, many people were already out. I looked around cautiously as people eyed me. I felt as though everyone’s eyes were on me. It was probably all in my head though, because no one said anything or talked to me. I made my way into a shop that read ‘TYULIO’. It has a shirt icon in front of it, so I assumed that it was a clothing store and I was correct.

I looked around at the clothes and looked down at the clothes I borrowed from Matthew. Baggy khaki pants, and a white working tank. I looked like I just got done working in the fields. I looked in the pants section and to my surprise I actually found a nice pair of jeans and a black button-up collared shirt. I looked around, not many people were wearing stuff such as what I picked out, but enough as though I wouldn’t look un-normal. I bought my clothes and left the store.

I walked outside and decided to check out the town for a while. You could find anything you would think of in the town. It was HUGE! I saw a store where you could buy swords, shields, and armor. There were all sorts of food stores and flower markets. I even found a stand with tons of jewelry. I decided to buy a small bracelet as a Thank-You-Present for Iria. I picked one that was silver and had a deep red stone in it, most likely Garnet I though.

The heat was just getting worse and I began to feel sick to my stomach from it. I came upon a small building and above it was a sign that said NOV. It had the picture of a mug with fizz bubbling over the rim. I assumed it was a Pub. I entered and was hit with a blast of cool air. I walked up to the counter.

“Anyone here speak my language.” Some people turned their heads at me and scowled, but the bartender walked over and looked me up and down.

“You’re a foreigner I see…” He looked at the men that had glared at me. “Best not to be talking like that to too many people. It may cause ya’ some trouble, y’hear?”

I simply nodded. “Sorry… I don’t know anything about this language. Do you know anyone that can teach me?”

The man was looking around and then he set his eyes on someone. I assumed it was the person he was looking for. He whistled to him and flipped his hand in a motion that told him to come here. “Pratt, this here lad would like to learn the language.”

Pratt looked much more like me, he had normal ears and no sharp teeth. He must be a foreigner too. Since he wasn’t one of their kind I figured he was around 17 years of age… the same age as Sharon.

“Good morning to you, sir. I’m Pratt Jonnsoon” He grinned. One of his teeth was silver. “Nice to meet you…..”

“Arai… Arai Magg”

“So you be wanting to know how to speak the language…” The bartender left as Pratt spoke.

I simply nodded.
