Sun Dragon Chapter One

Chapter I: The Clock Shatters

“And that is why we offer tributes in the dragon churches.” a woman said. She had a stick in her hand as she pointed at a board while speaking; she is most likely a teacher. “We pay tributes so that the seal keeps working.” she continued.

“This is a load of crap” someone said interrupting

“Um, excuse me would you like to share something with the class?” she asked turning around to a boy with spiky green hair.

The boy replied, “ Why yes I would, this little lesson of yours about the universe and dragons is completely made up.”

“Trouble maker eh? Let me see who you are,” she said pulling out a list of names. “You are Ronan are you not?” she asked.
“So what if I am?” he asked.
“You’re the boy who lives in the desert outside of town aren’t you.”
“Don’t bring where I live into this teach!”
“Oh I’m sorry, but anyways, why do you think this is made up?”
“Well for one,” the boy said stretching his arms, “If Domas the Time Dragon can control time then why doesn’t he just go back in time and kill all the dragons?” A girl sitting behind him poked him in the back. She also had green hair and had her hair put up into two big pigtails.

“Psst, Ronan we covered Domas last week.” she whispered to Ronan.

“Huh? We did? What are you talking about Kazumi?” Ronan asked.
“Ronan you really do not pay attention” Kazumi said sighing. “Well, if you did pay attention in class you would know that every week we focus our studies on a certain dragon and his powers; you should know this Ronan. Last week we studied Domas.” she explained to Ronan. Ronan just looked at her and blinked, Ronan didn’t know what the heck she was talking about. He never paid attention in class, sometimes he even wondered why he took his precious time and went to school. The town that they live in is called Merc. The town is quite small and its’ population barely out seizes a village. The reason for the size of the towns’ population is because Merc is surrounded by a vast and harsh desert; nearest town is miles away. Ronan and his family moved to Merc a couple of weeks ago and live on the outskirts of Merc. Ronan out of his free will and not by his parents’ wishes goes to school everyday. So as Ronan just sat there blinking and nodding like he understood what Kazumi was saying, he started to wonder why his parents made them move to Merc. Little did Ronan know he wasn’t going to see his parents again for a long time after tonight.

The bell for lunch rang around eleven thirty. Ronan grunted as he stood up and pushed his chair in under his desk. He then walked outside and started to walk north to the lunch building. As he was walking two young males ran up to him. One had tan skin and dark black short hair, while the other had long light brown hair and light white skin.

“So I heard you fell asleep in Dragon Studies again Ronan.” the tan boy said smirking.

“Hmm? So what if I did Retz I always fall asleep in that fantasy class.” Ronan replied.

“Meh no big deal we aren’t gonna get on your case like a teacher, right Spike?” Retz said turning to the white skinned boy.

“Hmm? Yeah whatever.” Spike said sipping on his soda. Ronan just grunted and kept walking. Ronan didn’t know why Spike and Retz hung out with him at school. He didn’t really want friends, he thought they were a waste of time and get in the way, but secretly he couldn’t live without other people caring about him. He didn’t really see them as close friends but they were the closest thing to friends besides Kazumi.

Ronan paid the lady and said thank you for his lunch. He made his way over to his regular table and sat down with a grunt, he just wanted the day to hurry up and end. He hated lunch the most though. The reason for his hate was because the lunch room is full of people and Ronan is not what we would call social. Everybody just stares, and stares, and stares, at his green hair. Humans are not born with green hair and he certainly is not an elf because his ears are human and he is of average height. Of course Kazumi has green hair, but that is because her parents are human and an elf. Not only that, but people do not talk to Ronan because of this grotesque bloody scar going down his right eye. People look at him and ask themselves, what did he do to deserve that mark? So Ronan is lonely in the darkness, but he enjoys the embrace of the darkness that surrounds him. And that enjoyment is what leads to the shattering of the clock.

“Man, why do you have to look so depressed Ronan!?” Retz asked throwing his tray on the table.

“Well, give me a reason not to be.” Ronan replied poking his food with a fork.

“Well, Spike came thru with his special skills again.” Retz said smirking. “He got us a list of the hottest girls in this school and their addresses!” Retz threw a little black book on the table. “Even got us what they look like dude!”

“I wouldn’t really call it a special skill.” Spike said sitting down at the table. He was sipping on a new soda.

“Dude, Spike, don’t you ever stop drinking soda and eat?” Retz asked.

“Hmm,” Spike thought for a minute “No, not really” Spike replied drinking more soda.

“Riggghhhttt, anyways these are the girls I think we should check out.” Retz said while trying to change the subject by pointing in the black book. A hand out of nowhere hit Retz in the back of the head as hard as it was fast.

“What are you perverts talking about now?” Kazumi asked pulling her hand back.

“If being a pervert means that I like girls, then yes I’m a pervert.” Retz replied to Kazumi slightly annoyed. Kazumi just sneered at him and sat down next to Ronan.

“And how are you today Ronan hmm?” Kazumi asked smiling.

“I’m just as fine as I was when you saw me awhile ago. I swear to whatever dragon god is in charge of food that this food is alive.” Ronan said with barely any emotion to his voice as he continued poking his food.

“Um, that’s great, so how do you like Merc so far?” Kazumi asked.

“It’s pretty nice, it is a bit sandy for my taste though. I have to wear goggles when I go home to keep the sand out of my eyes.” Ronan said scratching the area of his forehead where his goggle were located. “But I do enjoy the frequent blackouts we have from the sandstorms. Makes this school kind of fun.” Ronan took a sip from his soda and continued, “ Also this school isn’t overly over crowded so that’s good too.” Kazumi checked to see if Retz and Spike were paying attention, they weren’t. They were chatting on and on about girls and such, not paying the slightest attention to Kazumi and Ronan. Kazumi decided to finally ask Ronan a question that had been bothering her but she was too scared of how Ronan would react.

“So…” Kazumi said trying to start the question. “Why do they your parents whores?” Ronan stopped eating. He blinked for a second with no expression on his face and then looked down to the ground.

“Because…my mom is only twenty-eight years old…” Ronan said briefly.

“Oh…sorry I asked.” Kazumi said apologetic.

“That is why we live on the outskirts, to avoid jerks who cannot admit all she did was make a mistake when she was young and they should just stop holding it against her.” Ronan stopped for a bit. “Humans disgust me. All they do is destroy nature for their selfish needs, it sickens me. Meh, I want this day to end.” Ronan said finishing his rant. Just then the power at the school went out. “Bloody perfect” Ronan said grunting.

At the end of the day when school was finally over Ronan walked all the way thru the desert to his house; what a hard trip for him that was. His house was small and beat up. It looked quite cozy from the outside, it was made of clay, had one tiny window, and had a tarp above the house to try to keep as much sand as possible out; it didn’t work so well. Ronan opened his front door and walked in. He pulled his scarf down from his mouth so that he could breathe and took his goggles off. He shook his hands and head to get the sand off him and then he started to rub his eyes, they were very sore he hasn’t been sleeping well; something about his dreams and dragons in them. Ronan left his tiny foyer which only included a bookshelf, a couple of chairs, a couch, and one table. He made his way to his kitchen to see if his mom was home. He found a note from her on the fridge. The note simply stated that she was out in town buying food and supplies and would be back around dinner time. Ronan was so tired that he limped back to his foyer and plopped himself on the couch. The couch wasn’t very comfortable it was very old and Ronan’s legs were too long for it, but he decided he would take a nap on it anyways.

Ronan had a very disturbing dream that afternoon, he dreamt of a boy with blonde hair. When Ronan tried to move and ask the boy who he was and what he was here for he couldn’t move, Ronan was frozen. The boy just laughed and laughed. Ronan screamed frantically and demanded to know who he was. The blonde haired boy just smirked and simply said in a cold voice,

“You…” and the boy started to laugh again. Ronan said that he was insane and that he wanted to just wake up from this nightmare. The boy laughed yet again and said,“You cannot wake up from the truth Ronan no matter how much you want to run from it. You may think I am the bad guy but I am actually here to help you. Your mental clock has shattered and what lies ahead will push you to your limits. Welcome to Hell Ronan.” he said and just kept laughing and laughing. Ronan punched the dark abyss of what he was standing on frantically, crying and demanded that he wake up.
