This is an image from my 'Zonerunner' stories and artwork that I produced between 2001 and 2003. The work focuses on Mobian civilians during Robotnik's five-year occupation of Mobius in the UK Sonic comic (often referred to as STC or Fleetway) universe and how they cope in an oppressive society where Sonic can't always be around to help out.
'Zonerunner', or 'Runner', is a title given to Mobians who actively and voluntarily defy Robotnik's law. Runners come from all walks of life, from elderly village leaders to headstrong youngsters. The mass underestimation of Robotnik's military might shook up those who decided to protest against his rule, but many carry on with the resistance using Sonic as an icon of hope and inspiration.
Though even in the hectic life as Zonerunners on the run from an unfriendly global empire there are still times when you've got to take five and chill out! In the Frozen Zone, Dee, Jen and Jools (left to right) have a quick 'blast from the past', engaging in a snowball fight like they frequently did as cubs before the Mobian Occupation.
