Take Heed

In a circle, in a spiral, spin
And now, it’s time for the adventure to begin,
The fire that lights up the night,
Sending birds off, in frenzied flight.

What was not ours has become
A night devoted to the stars,
Which sing and dance in the light
Burning and shining, oh so bright.

But through the dazzling, sparkling lights we forget
The fates of others that have not yet met,
The burning of fire, reflects on their skin
And comes ever so close, the Devils manic grin.

One touch, too close, that’s all it takes
For the human bonfire to take hold, and increase in pace,
A life that once shone, oh so bright
Is now lost, to the coldness of the night.

So while you’re having fun tonight
With your sparklers and laughing in delight,
As your name appears in the Smokey stars,
Remember those families, with broken hearts.

Remember those, who lost their lives
Just because their eyes, overrode their minds,
Don’t let your school memories rust
As thousands of children, turn to dust.

A poem about bonfire night and the dangers of it, because too many of us forget, and too few remember those who have forgotten.
