House on Daisy Hill (scene 1)

EXT. FRONT PORCH - NIGHT

JOHN, a young man in his late twenties wearing a suit and a friendly smile and holding a black suitcase knocks on the door of a large, white house, precariously perched on the top of a hill. A moment later, SUE answers the door, a woman in her early thirties. She is stressed and panicky when she opens the door but is relieved when she sees John.

SUE
You're here!

Sue gives John a brief hug, but then shoves him away.

SUE
You selfish bastard! Do you know how much hardship I've been through because of you?!
John's smile remains on his face as he takes on a look of confusion and concern.

JOHN
I'm... Sorry?

SUE
Sorry, oh, sure you're sorry. You don't even know what you're sorry for, do you?
John gives an apologetic shrug.

SUE
I didn't think so. Oh, John.

Sue relaxes and smiles at John.

SUE
You have no idea how glad I am to see you.

JOHN
It's good to be home.

SUE
Don't say that so soon. Come on in.

Sue turns inside towards the house.

SUE
(yelling)
Boy! Come help John with his luggage!

Pause

SUE
Boy! Come out here!

There is no answer. Sue turns towards John.

SUE
That boy sleeps like a log. I swear, he does absolutely nothing for this household, just sleeps and makes a mess. I ask him to do some simple things every now and then, nothing. Mother spoils him rotten, gives in to all his bizarre indulgences. Not that mother doesn't have her own set of indulgences. Well, what are you waiting for? Come on in.
Sue walks in the house, and John follows her, bringing his luggage with him.

JOHN
... Boy?

This is the first scene of a play I wrote ages ago. It's 36 pages long so I'm going to submit it one scene at a time.

If you're interested in reading more, give lots of comments to encourage me to submit more of it. Otherwise, I might think no one's reading it and not bother.

This play is very strongly based off a dream I had, so it's pretty weird and nonsensical, just like a dream. This first scene is pretty normal, though.

Also, thanks to for the image.
