Bimbaya was stunned at the cub's condition. He must have been out here for days -- weeks, even -- all alone. Through short conversation she discovered the root of his troubles: a coup. In a last desperate attempt to spare her son from the claws of the new king, the cub's mother had cast him out into the wild. Bimbaya felt her throat tighten with sudden anxiousness. He did look very similar, but... "What was your mother's name?" The cub paused, his posture drooping further. "Morowa," he answered, the word rasping out of his dry throat. Bimbaya felt her stomach sink into the earth. So Maliki had finally fallen, the old fool. Oh, how her heart ached for her old pridesisters. "Don't worry, kid," she sighed. "I'll take care of you."
