Our Crew Is Me and You

I USED REAL MEDIA. OMG? I scribbled this with some leftover Prismacolor colored pencils I found in the back of my art room while listening to my beloved headphones, and though it's messy I actually kind of like it.

Long story short: these are two characters I've had for awhile but haven't really shown. One is in memory of a cat that I had who I named Mix Master Mike after the Beastie Boys.

He literally got stolen by the meanie mexicans across the street. Unfortunately by the time I got wind of what happened, he had already been taken to the pound and to this day I'll never know if he was adopted or put to sleep and I don't even want to think about it because everytime I draw his face I start crying. There's a lot I want to say about him since he was my baby beastie since he came out of the WOMB (WITH MY HELP MIGHT I ADD), but I'll save that for a later time.

The other is in light of a person I created and decided to turn into a Fennec Fox because, well, I WILL HAVE ONE WHEN I MOVE TO CALIFORNIA.

They're best friends, both D.J.s, and they love to break dance. Mix Master Mike is more into the hip hop scene while Cameron hearts Gabber/Hardcore/Speedcore but they rub off on eachother constantly and their lifestyles begin to meld, and as well as that, Cameron loves The Offspring. I DON'T KNOW WHY, but whenever I look at him I just think of them and THUS: hoodie logo.

This was KIND OF a big step for me because it meant I needed to start delving into a different subculture artisticly and it's something that I haven't really touched since I was a little kid and turned into an anal teenager. I wanted to pay my respects to the bands who get shrugged off as MAINSTREAM and who for that reason aren't considered COOL ENOUGH and to the D.J.s and rappers and breakdancers that can hold me in absolute awe sometimes and I only wish I could do what they do without sounding horrible or snapping my head off. I guess this is also my way to remember my childhood before I bought into everyone's shitty bullshit and that, to me, music is the universal language.

I don't have to like it to understand what it means to people.
