This was originally just a sketch I did when I had wanted to vent out all my bottled up inspiration after finding out Sonic was in Brawl. But then i thought I was turn it into a colouring test, so I want all of your HONEST feedback on what you think. Spare no word or thought, just let me know what you think about it because it is a test for me. I must give credit to Dark Kitsune of coarse for the line art! She is my gf and a wonderful artist who inspires me greatly! So what do ya think of it? hm? Hm? HMMMMMM!?

its very nice (though the shoes a bit too big >_> but at the stomach peach-ish part it kinda goes out of the lines other than that its great 83

Hmmm ok lets see here ^^

Now the first thing i wanna ask is are you trying to do the Sonic Team style of coloring or are you going for normal coloring with shading?

If you were going for the sonic style then i can help you a little bit there since i have some experience with that type of art ( its really easy but some what time consuming). The Sonic coloring kind of throws light sources and shading out the window in the name of overall balance of the colors and highlights. Im kind of embarassed to show some pics from another account ( but not really afraid to anymore) if ya look here with my pic of Tailsko (Femme Tails) http://pensuke-kun.deviantart.com/art/Tailsko-Wallpaper-58890524 the shadow AND the highlights appear on the same side in allot of areas of the image but not everywhere like between the legs. and usually on the hair or some sort of body part that stands out with both sides in the air like Sonic's spiky hair then you put the highlights and the shade on one side but not the other.... as long as it looks balanced... um... i hope that helps with sonic style coloring... i suck at explaining ...

Now if you are coloring with normal lighting concepts then the lighting is somewhat wrong but not completly. Like the highlights on the shoes depict that the light is coming directly from the left but the shine on his hair depict that its coming from the upper left and straight above and the light on the gloves say that its coming from the upper right.

Now for the line work, and i mean the actual lines not what the lines make

This isn't a critiquing but a nice tip ^^. When drawing the lines instead of drawing one even weighted line with the pen tool across the sketch you are inking, you should draw a shape across the line you are inking ^^. Like take the extra time to go up and down the line with the pen tool to make the stroke look like if there was varying weight on the pic.... this will give the picture a more lively look to it. i hope you understand my description :/ i might just make a sonic team style tutorial if you don't ( lol don't take advantage of what i just said )

The only "bad" thing i have to say about this pic is about the shoes. The shoes are ok if they are huge but the shoes are poorly detailed. Now i know i use to have really crappy shoes because i was impatient when drawing them before but if you get a couple of reference pics then you can have the shoes to draw from in different POVs so you can nail the details awesomly ^^... this is the great thing about reference... there not for copying but they are tehrer for you to refer to when you aren't sure about how something looks like ^^... you should see how Manga studios are... frigin PILES of paper everywhere that are just for reference ^^ but we have the internet for that if we wanna search for something specific. I can say something about the socks or the cuffs of the gloves but in my oppinion it would be pointless cuz things like that you learn on your own... like if you keep on drawing that type of fabric allot then you will get a better idea of what to do next time every time you draw it.

i can't think of much else to point out for ya and i hope you understand my tips you left there and if ya want a more detailed and semi step-by-step process of drawing in sonic team style ( based off of someone else but it works great i think ) then you can go here ^^ http://www.idigitalemotion.com/tutorials/guest/sonic/sonic.html
