This piece feels like its got a stylized air to it which is great; I get bored of the same exact super-realistic image all the time. Style, in my opinion, is the mark of someone who is skillful enough to play with the rendering of the object and is able to deviate a little from coldly copying it down. It reminds me a little of the jumping lamp in Spirited Away at Swamp's Bottom, (if you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry about it). All and all, nice quick work.
i love the way the holder curves-it looks wicked and twisted (and you know how much i love that stuff)the shading is splendid and (hoho, i never thought i would ever use this outside of art class) i love how you used space to emphasize the picture. i can't explain it, but i love the spaces in between the charcoal surrounding the lamp and the lamp itself.
and no, i'm not saying this to suck up. i mean it.
Ahah, you're most likely the nice refreshing breeze in your Drawing Class. Since you're still lifes (This and the tree) Are so stylish, I like the curves in them a lot. Really well done.
