Greetings, Future Fascists, & Welcome to Slavery
It astounds me to see the current generation of "Dot.Com"-er's (those who were of age around the turn of the millennium) who can sit back and callously watch a young man be un-lawfully assaulted by security forces. I'm referring, of course, to the situation posed within the "Don't Taze Me, Bro!" video which has floated around the Internet for quite some time. Now, to be fair, I did enjoy a laugh at the fact that he used the phrase "bro", rather than "man," or, "dude," but that is beside the point.
What is disturbing is hearing of men and women roughly my age, or younger, proclaim that the Andrew Meyer deserved to be shocked because he was disrupting the situation. Take a step back for a second and think about that statement. He deserved to be injured by overzealous security for simply asking questions? This generation, and the generations following it, need to wake up and see the dangerous road they're traveling on towards fascism. Only in a soulless fascist regime could individuals exist who throughly believe that disruption, or chaos, should be replaced by indifferent and rigid order.
Combine this apathy with a lack of political involvement, and the United States is faced with the prospect of a legion of indifferent, and potentially amoral, citizenry. To that end, I strongly urge each and every able man and woman to vote in this upcoming election... Democrat, Republican, Green, Independent... Register your support for whatever socio-economic philosophy suits your belief system, or lack thereof for that matter, in 2008. I know deep in my heart that my party (the Libertarian Party) will not take the White House come election time, but I will still vote and express my beliefs as such. There are some who will still consider voting to be "a waste of time" because they're not being monetarily rewarded for doing so. To that, I say, "vote now and stand up for your Constitutional beliefs, or you'll be rewarded with the chains of oppression."

Aye, I've been trying to tell people the way the government's been going for years, but the way they respond makes it seem like I'd have an easier time walking into a crowd of zombies and telling them to stop gnawing on your arm. I'm still trying to hold up hope that one day mankind won't need a government and instead just live to help each other out, though I sadly don't see that happening in my lifetime. Kinda depressing if you ask me.

He deserved to be tazed because he was a dirty commie bastard, and we need to keep those pinks out of our country or the Soviets have already won. /lol
All jokes aside, the thing I enjoyed most about that video is his comrades were just sitting there not helping him. If we really want to dislodge this countries trek towards its fascist future we need to do more then stand against it. We need to stand together.
Wow, nuff said right there.

Oh, I don't think he deserved it, but saying "bro" is pretty lame.
PokeyStix Says:
You're jumping to conclusions quite a bit here.
Fascist is an extreme word, and I don't think it was necessary for the situation. Sure, some idiots think Andrew Meyer deserved to be tasered, but that doesn't mean that these silly people will one day rule America, or that these silly people think that the law should be changed so that disruption is solved by tasers.
Chances are, the people who said probably weren't thinking when they said that, and some may not think at all.

yeah..America is already Facist

I say it would've been nice if someone had stood up or something, but I won't be a hypocrite. I wouldn't have stood up, my general policy is to avoid all trouble. I think people just took him as an example and those who wanted to object didn't for fear of ending up like him, and the others just didn't object because they were amused. Which is stupid.
That said, I think the whole thing is stupid. All the guy was doing was asking questions, and no, they may not have been the questions Kerry wanted to hear, but they were still just questions. I'm disappointed in Kerry, in that he didn't speak out against any of it and just kinda stammered and stood back. He still had an obligation to try and answer the guy's questions, and security was stupid for just hauling him away.
But even so, the student in question made a dumb choice by resisting them. I understand his feelings and I would've spoken out against the treatment as well. But to physically resist them only invites more of the same treatment, which is why he got tazered.
The whole thing was a result of stupid decisions on both sides, in my opinion, and it all could've been avoided. But still, it's dumb to think that people actually find it funny. Sure, parts of it may be humorous (specifically the 'bro' part), but that's not what's important.

This sort of thing is why I've adopted a more anarchistic attitude toward life...
The majority of people, not just in the U.S, but worldwide, need to wake up and realize the governments of the world.. Not a single one of them, have their best interests at heart.. Capitalist, communist, dictatorships, what have you, each system of government is corrupt and WILL step on you in a heartbeat if it suits their interests...
I have nothing but respect for those who have realized it, and do take a stand, even if it fails...
Pleasure Says:
U.S.A has no democracy, so I don't feel an urge to vote.
Onam iki t t y Says:
Holy fuck. Just... Holy fuck. I almost cried watching that video, that's absolutely ridiculous, he's crying out in pain and yelling "HELP!" and absolutely no one cares or is doing anything, when he's just asking a question. He was getting fucking arrested. I didn't find the video funny at all, and I'll slap anyone who tells me they did.
And you know what? That's against the law. It's in the Constitution that someone getting arrested has the RIGHT to know why, and they were just hitting him down on the floor and tazing him. But of course, our government's becoming so corrupt that shouldn't matter, should it?
I don't really pay a lot of attention to the government or politics, but I saw an episode of the Colbert report, where Steven interviewed a guy who wrote a book about how Bush, and many preceding presidents are slowly changing little bits about the government so that the Executive branch has more power than the other two, so that the President is like a king, and that our so-called Democracy is becoming more and more like a monarchy, and it is.
I can't believe more people didn't stand up when Kerry should have won the election, and I didn't even care at the time. I can't believe about 33% of America still supports Bush when he's draining all our money and killing off our soldiers when he stomped into Iraq for no reason! Everything about this makes me so goddamn angry!
I'm disappointed in Kerry, too, though. He should have done something about the way the guy was being treated, and the fact that he didn't means he didn't deserve to be president, either. The reason stupid people get to be so high up in the ranks is because it's only stupid people that vote. The smarter ones are a bit dim too 'cus they think if they don't vote it'll break the system, or some crap like that. Someone stupid's going to win, so why not try and vote for someone slightly less stupid than the others?
Urgh. I need to go watch a movie or something and stop thinking so hard. - _ -
