He lived in our garden for awhile. I'm a little sad that after a hard rain, I didn't see him again... I think he was about the prettiest spider I've ever seen. ^^ I think, according to a friend, if I remember right, he's a golden agriope.
A black and yellow garden spider, AKA the "Writing" Spider. The breed is called Argiope aurantia, the zig zaggy pattern in the center of the web resembles writing, which is why they're nicknamed that. Those things are neat. After a hard rain, you'll find her web moved a few feet over but generally in the same area. The large yellow ones are the females. The smaller brown ones are the males. Creepy ... and I suffer arachnophobia ... but I still study them. lol!
