Reaper

Sirens blaring. A crowd gathering wanting to know what is happening. Officers keeping the crowd at bay while paramedics desperately try to save the life of a young man. Shot multiple times through the chest. Bleeding to death. It is a sad sight to see. Tonight, a family will receive that dreadful call that no one should hear. No one knows why this happened. Was it out of hate? Jealously? Or was it a robbery gone horribly wrong. No matter what the reason, it’s time to take this one in. So sad, I do not believe it was his time.
I go near the body and help the boy up. Not knowing what has just happened, the boy stares shockingly at his lifeless body on the ground. He doesn’t understand that he is not of this world anymore. I tell him that it’s time to go. It is human nature to be scared of the unknown; things they do not understand. This time was no exception. He cried and pleaded to me to live, but with a heavy heart I tell him he cannot return.
The paramedics are now loading the body into the ambulance and prepare to make a hasty, yet a hopeless, trip to the hospital. A mother desperately praying for her son to survive after receiving the call. The crowd disperses. Police are wrapping up. Blood is still on the street.
Some people see me as the bad guy. Others see me as an inevitable part of life. I cannot recall how many events just like this I have witnessed nor the amount of souls I had to take. It is not a glorious job. I receive zero thanks for it. Nobody ever wants to see me. This is what I do. I am a Reaper.

This short story is kind of a downer.

While writing the Average Story, I keep in mind of future characters that I will introduce. This one character I thought of seems to jump out at me and I believe he may a big part of the story way down the road
