Never Forget

I'll never forget that horrible day
When I saw two metal birds fly over our home
With their wings outstretched pointing miles away
And their beaks determinedly pointed to the heart of the east.
But we're so used to seeing these giant metal birds
And we have tamed them to do our every bidding
That we were too blind to see these birds weren't our parrots
But blood-thirsty hawks bent on destruction.
And their hungry eyes were set on two huge worms
That were located in the heart of the Big Apple
But these sky-scraping worms were so rare, you see?
How many worms can say they have a twin?
These metal hawks was carried our loved ones
Gave us no time to wake up or react
They just hungrily crashed into the twin worms
And took all of us by surprise that morning.
But when most of us were in bone-chilling panic
There were few who kept their heads
And the heroes who never dreamed of being heroes
Rose from the ashes like the magestic phoenix.
And if it weren't for the phoenix rising from the ash of our ruins
We'd still be in disorder today...
So never forget that horrible day
When those two metal birds tried to take everything away.

I wrote this poem in memory to a loved one that my family lost in the 9-11 attack, Vanessa, and in memory to the heroes of that day.

Everything (c) me

P.S. Sorry about Vanessa's picture...it is the only one my family has and my stupid-ass brothers stuck stick pins in her head...

I'm so sorry for your lost. That was a beautiful poem.

quite lovely, good work with consistent metaphor. The line 'These metal hawks was carried our loved ones' is grammatically incorrect, but besides that I don't really have an qualms with this, it's nicely sombre.
