Ulquiorra

A few of you know about the project I began about three weeks ago and now it's finally complete. This was a pretty big challenge, considering I attempted to (and I believe I succeeded) to shape his spiky-ish hair and make it visually pleasing from most angles according to my reference sketches.

But yeah this took quote a while. I ended up redoing the hair once because the first technique I decided to use wasn't very reliable. (forming each "spike" manually, and pasting it onto the skull) I ended up carving out the hair and then later cutting out chunks of the base and adding additional spikes to form layers. The mask was extremely easy, and the body was fairly easy.

If you look at a few of the pictures you'll notice his base changes angles, that's because I didn't consider the physics of the project beforehand, so the head was too heavy for the body... It kind of tilted to the right and back a little bit, so I added fresh sculpey to the bottom to allow me to change the angle to a presentable view.

:] I'm getting a little better with precise brush strokes (ie: eyes, strands on front of face, black lace of his coat) so I'm happy about that. One thing that surprised me about this project is that his spikes are surprisingly stable. While painting him, I dropped him a couple times -- while trying to type and paint at the same time and simply when moving him -- and he usually landed on his back, so I'd freak out about his hair.. But it was fine.

Finally finished this last night after four hours of painting yesterday. I took the pictures yesterday, but I was too tired and it was too late for me to submit.. So yeah.

So yeah, 'tis Ulqiorra.
