For reference (and considering I have some spare time) the legend of the tailed beasts is a Japanese one, which Naruto was based off of. The different tailed beasts were actually already predicted, and have so far been accurate.
One Tail: Shukaku (raccoon-dog)
Two tails: Demon Cat
Three tails: Turtle-like creature
Four tails: I forget...
(insert blankness)
Eight tails: Dragon OR Snake with eight heads as well
Nine tails: Kyuubi
