THIS IS UNORTHODOX

"I'm gonna be late for the game!" Midnight the Bat complained as she filled ice cube trays as quick as her hands could manage. She worked speedily to finish her morning chores, the anticipation of the day's events exciting her and causing her to tremble. Replaced by her normal casual clothing was the striped t-shirt and shorts of a soccer uniform. Today, in just a short flight to Station Square, she was going to participate in her first soccer game. She was so nervous!

Upon her brow a stack of pancakes ready to be eaten on the run swayed haphazardly as she switched the current tray for another. A movement of gold out of the corner of her eye caught her attention and she turned her head, nearly causing her soon-to-be breakfast to topple.

"Hey Spaz!" she called. "Grab my coat for me, I gotta hustle!"

Ray blinked, arching his brow quizzically at the odd sight of the bat. Judging from the irritation in her voice the squirrel decided it would be best not to question. After all, Midnight could be terrifying when upset. "U-um, okay..." he spoke timidly, scurrying off into another room and soon returning with with a brown coat with fur trimming.

"Here's your coat!" he said. He glanced at her and then around the room, wondering what he was going to do with it now. After a moment of thought he hung it's hood on her wing like a coat rack.

"Thanks!" the bat replied, finally finishing up on the last tray. She took the stack and carefully carried them over to the freezer to be placed inside, then finally took the plate of pancakes from her head, shoving a few in her mouth to carry and began racing toward the door. "Goffa go, tafe carf!" she said mumbled quickly, putting her coat on as she dove off the treehouse porch. Unfurling her wings she caught a current and began to sail off toward Station Square.

"M-Midi! MIDI!" Ray called, chasing after her and waving his arms. "Good luck!"

Never tell me that something is unorthodox when it comes to the arts. Not only is it a challenge to my creativity, but an insult to the human imagination. Only the narrowminded and foolish think otherwise.

The point behind this writing and the artwork that accompanies it was to prove my ability to make something sensible out of an idea someone considered less 'orthodox' than a drawing he had created which I considered unusual. Of course, in the end art is art no matter how sensible or strange it is.
