Dan Rockmore is a CS professor at Dartmouth who's building software that can compare "masterpieces" of artwork and determine if particular pieces are by the real master or a copy. He's currently working on validating works believed to be original Rembrandts by analyzing the brush stroke styles of the pieces and plotting the data.
It would be awesome if he could really make it work and collectors and museums wouldn't have to question whether their priceless artworks are the real thing. This is just one of those really cool instances where art and engineering collide.
