Say NO To Bad Fan-Art
Bad fanart is something which haunts me yet to this very day. And i am still queried to the point that i would rather hammer my testiclé to a wall than ask you, the fan-boy\girl 13 year old who knows how to use a Pencil, MS Paint, a mouse, or the word "LOL" to an extent previously un-thought of to man, Why would you create such an abomination?
Of course, there is good fan-art on this curse-d website of which i will happily spend four to five hours each day browsing, and i see it regularly. For example, this picture of Mew by RIPPL3R, a talented artist who has NOT used a pencil, MS Paint, A mouse, OR over-use of the word LOL. http://www.sheezyart.com/view/1288191/
See how it looks "Nice", smooth colours and lines, good solid posing and actually looks like a respectable, good, positively-recieved fan art.
NOW THEN.
There is so much more good fan art on sheezyart, but a lot of the definition "Fan Art" is over-run by the common submissions of Naruto pairings, or sub-standard anime fan-art, a Yaoi of Mario characters or, as i most commonly see in the hell-hole gallery browsing page, custom made Sonic characters made WITH a mouse, and MS Paint, that make me shudder each time i see it. You're only degrading the filthy name that sega once held proudly up high and said "THIS THING IS BLOODY GREAT".
You can put forward the argument that it took time, and you slaved over it, and made it look good, or you could blame the fact that you have limited resources etc etc.
Let me introduce you to a little thing called "PIRACY"
You can get a fairly good image-making software for free one way or another. Such as Paint Shop Pro (i use 8), or Photoshop perhaps. Even Demo's are available of these programmes.
Push comes to shove, keep with paint. But for F*cks sake, learn how to use it. Get a graphics tablet, i got mine for £30 ($60 or similar), and it has served me brilliantly.
Even using a pencil, and learning how to draw would be good.
When somebody votes "YES" or favorites a piece of bad fan-art, it is not because it excells in artistic form, or has lots of potential to evolve into greatness among the art community, it's because you've slapped a vague sonic face on a pile of colours and called it "A Sonic Character", or because two unlikely characters in some unheard of and (quite frankly) uncared of Anime are getting it off with each other in front of a tree. It puts down the artists, and the musicians, poets, writers, animators, film makers and photographists who take the time to make their submission to the art community worthwhile.
Fan Art isn't original, but Bad Fan-Art is just un-neccesary. Say NO to Bad Fan Art.
