Ridiculous
Usually, I'm a calm enough guy and a nice enough fellow. I don't go out of my way to make anyone feel bad, I do my work, I talk to my friends, and so on and so forth. Sometimes I even like to dabble in the world of literature. Yes, I have written such classic Sheezyart fictions as "The Cave In," and "Diplomatic Relations." I am always pleasently surprised when my works reach the front page, and people seem to believe they deserve it as they comment with such pleasentries as "great work, nice imagery" and so on.
Imagine my dismay, displeasure and outright anger, then, when I see pieces on the writing frontpage that don't deserve to be there. So called 'literature' that has little to no merit or qualities whatsoever. No plot, no storyline, no characterisation, no imagey; such are but a few of the complaints or components I may criticise. But I will always try my utmost to advise an author on how to improve, should I spot flaws, or indeed offer my congratulations and praise on a piece of excellent writing.
However, I have noticed a disheartening trend, as I am sure many of you have. I am sure it angers my fellow writers as much as it does myself. I am talking about those pieces that are exploitative clap-trap. I am talking about those submissions that make the bold claim of being out to denounce those pieces that get front page without deserving it, and yet make no case or argument and have no cohesive structure.
I am talking about the "LOL vote me to front page to prove my point!" submissions. They disgust me. The writers apparently put no effort whatsoever into the piece they have written (if you can, indeed, call it writing), and they ask people to get them on the front page to prove a point. I do have a small message to these so-called 'writers': you are not proving a point. It is exactly the people like you that cause the problem. So many of you repeatedly do exatly the same thing over and over, the literature submission section is being flooded with minimalist, IM-speak arguments. They contribute nothing to the front page system, and exploit the system. They complain about the yes/no system, while actively seeking to exploit it. Part of the problem is exactly that: you are actively looking for ways to exploit the system. Please, I beg of you, stop it. You are not helping anything, you are not proving any point, except possibly how childish and immature you are being.
I would also point out that the literature category is for literature, not video submissions. You should realise that videos do not belong in a category that is intended for written works only. Submit the videos in a journal link, and allow people to comment on the journals or on the youtube video itself. Please realise that videos are not written pieces. It would be rather amazing if they were, but they are not.
Thank you for your time.
Lord Welshi.

I approve of this message. :3 Hee hee. "Clap-trap". That's one I've never heard before over on this side of the water. ^.^
JadedEmeralde Says:
YES.
DJScythe17 Says:
Very true, but I feel I should vote No on this to avoid this going frontpage.
Nanook Says:
I'm not so bothered by protest, really.
I'm mostly bothered by the shitty poetry that gets up here every day.
But you're right-- writing is not treated as a proper art form, on this site.
Egan Says:
I'm tired of being flamed for pointing out flaws.
And some writers are a little overdramatic and have to tell me "go get hit by a car" when I've not said anything like so to them.
explosivoooo Says:
The same could be said about how many time's I've shook my head in sorrow when sub-par sound clips and pictures from inside jokes get posted on the front page due to a group of people spam voting it to the front. It's terrible when these things get to the front page and you can just look or listen to them and know the person put no time or effort into the piece.
giascle Says:
HAHAHA! And what brought that last bit up?
Onislize Says:
You beat me to this. :(
Volken Says:
You're absolutely right. It's not fair when complaints about the front page actually get on the front page, especially when most of the time the real message is 'I DON'T GET ENOUGH ATTENTION >=( >=( >=(!!!!!' Then they're all like 'NO DON'T PUT THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE I DON'T WANT TO CAUSE ANY TROUBLE.'
Oh, and I'm guilty of that video point. Heh, if that could be fixed somehow it could help the site a little. *lol*
Smiling Devil Says:
I totally agree with you, I can't say anything else about it, exept that you're right.
